futaba 7xc

anyone using one? looks amazing, Im very brand loyal and love futaba,

my 3vc/3vcs have done about 15ish years of loyal service

the 7xc although looking a bit spaceship and feeling bit light in the hand, does everything

just wondering if anyone has one and cares to report on it after spending 600 odd quid on one LOL

Yorkiebar 15-01-2019 06:21 PM

Blimey - I can't believe a 2ch surface radio has got to those figures cost wise!

It looks lovely but from a scan through has features probably 1% of customers will ever use?

Is a T4GRS not good enough, Tony? :)

tonydevon 15-01-2019 06:33 PM

I tried a t4grs a year or so ago.
A mates one. Test driving his serpent.

I hated how the tx felt in my hands

My 3vcs is working fine. But... always back of my mind.. its not getting any younger

Spend thousands on buggies combos lipos and travel to race meetings etc. That tx goes... its weekend over.

Plan is look for something new and keep old faithful as backup.

7xc looks a bit... fugly to be honest lol. But feels nice. Needs to be bit heavier for me ideally.

Maybe need to try the t4grs again.

620 quid is mental..

Aside from the signal speed. Nearly all bar 1 of the functions are on my old 3vc

Yorkiebar 15-01-2019 08:54 PM

We think nowt of adding weight to our cars to make them handle... How about having the back off and adding a few strips of lead in strategic positions? ;)

pumbaa 16-01-2019 07:33 AM

Somebody told me you can buy a weight kit for the T4GRS, but I've no idea where from. I'd agree it does feel a bit light and ideally I'd like mine to feel heavier in the hand.

So if there is any truth to this rumour, feel free to add some facts :-;

tonydevon 16-01-2019 08:00 AM

i plan to simply make up a weight with lead sheet, once happy then heatshrink or some form of nice covering and DS tape to the appropriate location

had a read up and UK gets stiffed big time, the same TX outside the UK gets 2 receivers a battery and a charger in the package, and cheaper

Hi Tony,

Your in the same situation as me, I spoke to John ( RC Octane ) about the 7XC

Like you i'm a 30 year+ Futaba man, again I have the 3VCS, it has never let me down, £600 seems like a lot of money, but the car kits are approaching £500 now by the time you've bought the kit, wheels/tyres, got the shell painted and a couple hopups, so its just like getting a new kit.

To add to the problem is the receivers, the 7XC only accepts the C2 type receivers and newer, so the older C1 type ( R603FS ) which I have 15 of them won't work on the 7XC ( this is my reason so far for holding off getting one )

tonydevon 16-01-2019 09:15 AM

yup, as you say we chop n change cars at 300 quid a pop, but radio tends to stay forever, my first radio in 1989 with my Topcat was a Futaba, and then years away from RC, but returned and it was futaba again, dont think I ever owned anything else, attack, 3vc 3vcs 3pk

your receivers still make good money on ebay, and from what I have seen the new receivers arent that expensive.

need to have good long think.

Im still yet to see one in use or hear from anyone that has one

Backforfun 16-01-2019 09:20 AM

I’m also in same situation with radio using the 3vc it just feels so good must will not last for ever

tonydevon 15-02-2019 08:44 AM

well I went and did it,

the &xc will run all the old Fasst etc receivers, but as the new ones so small now I got 2 receivers with it, then won a third just hours later in online raffle LOL

initial thought,,, hell this is bloody good radio, chock full of clever little things

so far I love the trim lock, so they cant be knocked or moved,
also, you can adjust things like endpoints so easy, full lock the steering stick and the trim adjusts endpoints

brakes up and down under left finger, steering travel up n down under right finger

battery life seems very good too even with just 4AA cells inside

I plan to keep my old 3vc shes done 14+ years of service, I intend to leave that radio setup on my wet/winter 2wd and then the touchscreen etc of the new one is kept safe n warm LOL

I'm interested to hear your thoughts after a few months use? Anything you don't like about it?

What servo are you using with it, I guess you need a Futaba servo for the best possible performance?

I've got a Santa exzes z but I don't really get on with it and am tempted to change as I loved my old Futaba ff3.

tonydevon 17-06-2019 08:36 PM

I love it. Truely genuinely would buy another.

Easy to use.

Fitted a life battery.

Tiny receivers with no aerial wire are sub 50 quid. However it will work with just about every futaba 2.4 rx. So that helps.

Lots of people made snide comments etc. I dont care. They all soon start making ooohs n aaahs when they hold it or the few that have driven using it.

I use Maclan esc. And orion 1605 servos.

I cant attribute my improved results to the 7xc as thats silly. But... I am now running faster and more consistently than when i was using my very old 3vc

All the controls you need are right there.

Ultra easy to navigate and bind receivers etc.

I dont think anyone would be disappointed by it.

Dont know where you are but im at mendip oople in 3 weeks.

If you there feel free to come have a look and play.

jph 18-06-2019 08:08 PM

Thanks for the update Tony, sounds like you are very happy with your purchase. I'm even more tempted now!

I'd love to come and have a look but sadly Mendip isn't very local for me - thanks very much for the offer though.
