hi ooplers
another parcel arrived care of my boy mitch needs an xfactor type rebuild but will more likely get bodgit and scarper one 😀😀😀

any advice on removing garish red paint that currently covers everything, thought about acetone or paint stripper, but don't want to melt plastic components

xfactor 15-12-2018 12:11 PM

Hi fidspeed......

I would try Nail Polish remover first on a small part. This does contain acetone but not as strong.

It will also depend on the paint that has been used to spray it red.

Put the Nail Polish remover on a rag and then rub onto red paint, (don't pour the Nail Polish remover directly on). Have a bowl of hot water and a lot of washing up liquid on the ready to wash the part straight away.

I would try it on a small part of the underside of the chassis first to see what reaction you get with the paint, unless you know the paint thats on it.

Hope that helps..............:)

fidspeed 15-12-2018 07:12 PM

daz75 15-12-2018 07:29 PM

Ah lol looks a bit of a nightmare project then

fidspeed 15-12-2018 07:54 PM

it's not actually in bad nick, removing the red paint may prove the most difficult and time consuming

Speak to Stanton, he had a Losi covered in paint and managed to make it come up like new. Looks a good project car

Danf1275 16-12-2018 06:28 PM

I've soaked items in neat Dettol to good effect

MattW 16-12-2018 08:29 PM

Looks like it might be based on a SWB chassis / top deck?

Dadio 25-12-2018 01:22 PM

You could try soaking in brake fluid , that's halmless to plastics and can work .

fidspeed 25-12-2018 08:35 PM

acetone free nail, polish working well fibreglass chassis still tinged with red though

ally eccentrics fitted as well as alloy centre track rod odd rear wishbones and busted top deck MMS diffs too some good bits some not so good
