Southport National 18th and 19th July 2009

Some Information If You are attending the Southport National

The Cafe is Open:- from about 7:00 'til around 6:00pm serving hot food and drinks as well as a few sweets and cans of pop. There will the usual "stand pipe" arrangement for cold water throughout the weekend

Toilets:- as usual the clubhouse toilet facilities will be available from around 6:30am through to around 9:00pm, thereafter there will be toilets outside the clubhouse.

Speed Limit:- for real cars across the field is 2mph

Entrances to the park:- There are 2 ways directly into the park. do not use the entrance near the boating lake that takes you past the childrens playground. The entrance to the park is the "middle" one by the garden centre. However if it is very wet, then this entrance becomes waterlogged so please be careful - we will have measures in place to (hopefully) cope with this eventuality.

Directions to Victoria Park
From the North: - Exit M6 at Junction 26 joining the M58 west until Junction 1(switch island) Carry straight on the A5036 following Brown Information Signs for Southport Tourist until the first set of traffic lights (Police Station & Travel Inn on right) Turn right (sign posted Formby) A5207 North Perimeter Road. Straight on at Lights into Lydiate Lane (A5207) at next set of lights turn right (sign posted Southport) A565. Keep on A565 (Formby Bypass) for Approx. 6 miles, after passing RAF Woodvale Airfield on the left take the next left at the traffic lights (Coastal Road). At the Second Island take the third exit onto Weld Road then first left onto Rotten Row. Entrance to the track is 100 yards on left

Sat Nav:- Rotten Row, PR8 2BZ

The Track:- has seen some big changes over the past few weeks - the biggest change is the new astro turf sections that have replaced the grass....it's the same astro as we have on the straight and it is very very grippy.

Caravans:- There are still some Caravan spaces left, if you want them please PM me on here for my address details. Please note that if you bring a campervan onto the park, you still have to pay the £10.00 camping fee and bring a copy of your insurance for our records. Please be aware this condition is imposed by the Council not the Club...

Victoria Park:- will be open from 2:00pm on Friday 17th July. There will be no admission to the Park before then for caravans/tents/pit tents etc.

The Weather:- has been booked, we requested glorious sunshine....

Litter:- There will be plenty of bins around the site and a skip too....please use them!

I think that is all the information that you need for the time being, If I have missed something obvious, please let me know. I have recently changed my mobile phone, so the number you have for me on the national information pack is no longer valid - my new phone number is here.

As you will see when you come to the National, we have worked hard to make the track as good as we possibly can - we look forward to you racing at our track once again and hope that everyone has a good weekend.

Has there been new astro laid after last year??? I was told there was and the grip level was low??? This has surprised me as the grip there last year was mega!!!!!!

Stu 26-06-2009 06:02 PM

I'll be taking track photos at the regional on sunday (none of the 4wd A).

I've not seen the changes yet, but I hope there will not be a new series leader next week.

Panarama image - too wide to embed in the forum page.

The track is basically the same as it was, but with the new grip levels you need to attack/back-off in different areas. I found it difficult at first because I know the old track so well, but by the end of today I was into the new game. I suspect that folk who don't know the track as well as the locals will find it less difficult to adjust.

Or if anybody can pm me mr worsleys email adress then I can contact him myself. The track pics look great by the way

Changes from last year to this year are subtle but significant....

Grass sections replaced with new astro (same type as used in the straight in 2008)

Worn out astor on back section replaced with new (as per above).

Doubles section replaced by 4-way table top - more forgiving to drive and the extra exit allows more track options.

New additional exit opened up (Stu's last picture - far left of shot) to allow more track options.

A new island has been made at the clubhouse end of the straight to make an additional sweeping entrance leading on to the straight, entrance also has new astro. (previously it was a sharp 90deg over some bumpy grass only used on club days).

Tarmac corner has been resurfaced due to the old surface starting to break-up quite badly.

Hopefully before the national the new astro will get re-streched and any unwanted lumps or bumps that have appeared will be smoothed out. :D
