40 years since I last drove on a permanent track. Really enjoyed it. Came away with fastest lap for a lane in the finals.

Teesside Slot Car Club are holding a race night on Thursday 30th April (see 1st post for location link)

Doors open 18:00

Free Practice until heats are sorted

Qualifying
Everyone does a one minute run to cover as many laps as possible on a lane chosen by race control.
The quickest six drivers go into the A final and so on down the order.

Finals
Each final has six runs of three minutes on the six different lanes. After each three minute race the driver has two minutes (can be changed by race control) to change his car to a new lane and change the lane colour sticker on their car.
Finishing order is decided by the driver covering the most laps over each three minute race.

Entry Fee £7:00 paid on the night

Tea, coffee, sweets, crisps availble for a small fee. There is also a small local shopping area with food and drink available about 500yds from the venue.

Got any pics of your car and controller Glenn?

Chequered Flag Racing 25-04-2015 04:51 PM

Not a good pic of the controller. SCD Electronic Finger. I have a 24 step version
http://www.chaskeelingscd.co.uk/controllers.htm

And a JK25 I believe from SDC

I'm new to this after 40 years away so was advised to start with the Falcon class chassis / motor in 1/24 Sports Class.
Last but not least is the 1/24 production falcon class. These chassis are made from pressed steel and are quite robust. The handling is great for the cost of this cheap mass produced chassis. Bodies for the sports class are JK variations of Le-Mans racing sports cars. This is the quickest of the 3 Falcon based classes

First practice night to get used to it I turned a 4.4 second lap. Then got to 4.2s after 3 nights then last time out I got a 3.988s lap. Club pro used my car and got a low 3.8s lap.

Thanks! Very interesting!

Has much changed since you last did it 40 years ago?

I never got further than striped down scalextric le mans with a few of us running on a loft table top track 25 years ago. We did away with the front wheels also, used standard controllers.

Wish I could remember that far back. :D

Pressed steel chassis and lazer cut chassis are new to me.

Clubs still run 'retro' class which are brass & piano wire chassis.

Guess motors have advanced a good bit but they still run brushed.

Biggest change would be in the hand controllers that now range from £25 to £500!!!! High end ones perform like our esc's with lots of paramaters that can be tuned.

Bare bones chassis, JK25
