Karting Advice
 

So Ive got a corporate Karting event this afternoon.
Karts are 390cc Thunderkarts at KartingNorthEast.
It looks like we'll be racing in the damp / wet.

Any advice will be appreciated, having only done this karting thing twice over the last 15 years, and that was in the dry.

What do I need to remember? Brake in a straight line, hit apexes and thats it?

Keep your body solid in the seat, use your hands on the wheel to force your body into the side of the seat which needs more grip.

IE - coming up to a fast left corner push you right hand into the wheel forcing your body into the right side of the seat, transfering weight over the right rear wheel.

Think about keeping momentum, go as fast in as you can but not so fast you cant get on the gas early.

A friend of my wife posted she got her hair wrapped around the go kart axle and ended up bruising her face.

Stay relaxed when driving and be smooth.
Brake in a straight line. If it's wet the racing line will be slippery so you could go wider.
Anticipate that the karts you are catching will go off in random directions!
Enjoy the experience and listen to the rules.

In wet, you need be really aggressive with kart, because kart under steer badly in wet due to the solid axle. you want to get the rear end moving a lot to help kart to turn in.

But on dry track, you need be smooth. a complete opposite compared to wet driving. And you need on the throttle real early before halfway through apex, minimal steering.. it will steer itself out of corner with throttle.

There will probably be no grip on the normal line and an almost comical amount of grip off the normal line. So experiment a lot with lines however un-natural they might be. Stay off the kerbs. Sometimes the apex will be quick, sometimes it'll much quicker doing a wall of death round the outside. You can usually be heavy on the brakes in the wet.

Looks like there are a few people here who can drive a bit. What price a oople karting event....
