Leccy noob advice
Bought a Cat SX off the RC TV guy Nick to play with whilst my nitro fun is underwater...
I have a Castle Sidewinder brushless combo coming with their CMS5700 motor can someone advise me on a pinion size please? When people state i have a So&so 5.5 motor is that 5.5 the motor kv rating does that make this Castle one a 5.7? Help a thicky cheers |
Either I asked a really stupid question or non of the 108 views knows the answer??
|
I'm one of the 108 - I don't know the answer, but I'm sure it doesn't work like that... I'll have a look to see what I can find out...

sam the 5.5 refers to the number of turns on the motor and iirc 5.5 is roughly equivalent to a 9 turn brushed.
In simple terms its gonna go like smelly stuff off a digging stick!! |

Castle quote it as being equivalent to a very good, 9 to 10 turn brushed motor. What size spur is currently fitted? |
Ah right cheers I looked on the novak site they have a chart, it refers to the amount of turns then.
The spur gear is the standard one I presume its the P Booth sig addition used once .... not sure if that 83? Castle hasnt arrived anyway yet looks like I've been pulled up by customs again  |
Track?
What size track are you runing on?
I would start around 21 on pinion but that just depends on track. Also if your bashing dont let the motor get over around 160-170 just change the pinion to achieve the proper heat of the motor. Jeremy |
The Castle combo turned up today and I had ordered a 21t pinion that came the other day.
Holly flip its quick !! Just playing about at home I'll keep an eye on the motor temp thanks.. One thing that was a pain was the Castle motor has three screws through the can either end so you cant slide it into the Cats motor mount without removing them.. doh |
