XB2 20 versus schumacher laydown
 

I'm in the market for a new 2wd to race on EOS carpet and I'm considering either the latest XB2 or the Schumacher Laydown.

Interested to hear peoples thoughts on which is better or pros and cons of either.

Lastly, ive got a full set of core springs from my previous Schumacher KC, will these fit the xray shocks if I go that way?

I ran the 2018 XB2 last winter and the start of this winter. The strength and quality was amazing as always with Xray. I had some big crashes in that time and never broke a single part. At those same meetings I saw plenty of broken parts on Schumachers, Associateds etc, so I was happy with that. But I think it was lacking in the handling department compared to the other top cars (Schumacher, B6.1, PR). It rolled around too much and struggled with jumps.

I built the new 2020 XB2 over Christmas and ran it for the first time on Saturday (Junction 16, EoS carpet, medium grip as its a few years old). It's a huge step over the previous car. Corners flatter, carries more corner speed, is easier to drive, and jumps way better. It now matches, or maybe even exceeds, the other cars on handling, while still bringing quality and strength that's second to none.

So I'd recommend the Xray now, you definitely won't be disappointed. They cost a bit more upfront, but you basically don't need any spares or upgrades, and nothing ever wears out.

Thanks for the reply Dale, good to hear from someone with first hand experience. I've had half a dozen Schumacher's through the years so have perhaps been apprehensive of making a change from what I know best.

Have you added any upgrades to your XB2 '20?

Front wing with the deck mount, mostly because it protects the shocks in a front impact.

1 slot arm extensions which give more steering.

Rear roll bar, more steering and keeps the car a bit flatter.

That's it. Tom Yardy ran his Saturday too, basically a standard car on kit setup (he had front wing and rear rollbar too). Took TQ and win against a lot of fast guys.

Are most running plastic or metal diff internals? 2 gear or 4?

From what I've seen at EOS they're running 2 gear with 150k! Ben and I were discussing this the other night in the pub as hes tried it. Worth having a chat with him.

For high grip (fresh EoS or CRC carpet) then metal 2gear with thick oil, 100-150k seems to be the go-to setup.

For more normal club level grip, the kit graphite gears will do the job. The metal gears just create more binding for more forward drive, and running only 2 gives more oil volume for more consistency.

The Xb2 20 is a real beast, I've found at least 0.4s a lap over my 18 car. Could well be the best car out there now for carpet

I could counter act an xray drivers view with a Schumacher drivers view, but it wont,
simple go to your local club look and ask there and make your own mind up, ask owners and have a prod of the cars

I've just ran my xray 2020 for the first time out the box lastweek on low grip Prima felt , really impressed.

I have a Yokomo Cal 3 also which I tried here previously with a ball diff and struggled but was using a 6.0t motor and now running a 10.5 with lots of boost and turbo

A young lad was racing a Laydown at my club on Saturday and it looked absolutely amazing. He was a brilliant driver but the car just looked fantastic, so quick and dialled it. It was pretty mesmerising.

So I’d buy a Schumacher! (I have a 6.1)
