DEX410 version Durango 2007
Hello,
I present you my crazy project!!! First, the story: In 2004 or 2005 I saw Bob Claes in Kampenhout for a training with his Durango. After that I was a Durango fanatic!!! So I tried to contact Gerd Strenge to buy one, but I never received answer. Here the Bob's Durango: http://www.hapshack.com/images/RFXqG.jpg Hara's car without shell: All parts are machined in aluminum or carbon http://www.hapshack.com/images/zgwTM.jpg In 2008 I had the opportunity to have a Durango in my hands for few weeks. So I decided to draw a copy. For that I learned by myself the bases of Solidworks and I drew that: http://www.hapshack.com/images/F9Qod.jpg After I modified the chassis to convert in 2007 version: http://www.hapshack.com/images/mqRPI.jpg http://www.hapshack.com/images/Q8hB0.jpg To finalize to project, it was possible with the Aeroracing Company. They made the specifics parts like the center driveshafts from the A-one. So I ordered parts, I payed, but I never received the parts!! Thanks Aeroracing alias Bob Claes :( In 2010 I bought a DEX410, I was happy, but it was not like an original Durango. So I decided to adapt the transmission in my "project". I modified about 50% of my drawings to install the DEX410 transmission, to use metric bearings and to use 25mm lipo. And finally it's compatible! http://www.hapshack.com/images/M5p2L.jpg Here 3d print to look if all is ok: http://www.hapshack.com/images/gKOpQ.jpg http://www.hapshack.com/images/nVdFi.jpg http://www.hapshack.com/images/ZEMfR.jpg http://www.hapshack.com/images/9sPpu.jpg All others parts will come from DEX410! After that I converted a traditional milling machine to CNC, I made the controller and I learned softwares to use it: http://www.hapshack.com/images/pONz4.jpg After some tests I can made the first aluminum parts!!! http://www.hapshack.com/images/hTmK4.jpg Now I just need time to finish the project. Milling take a lot of time and with the family it's not so easy... Edit: I tried to install all DEX410 parts, and it's ok! http://www.hapshack.com/images/gW5IJ.jpg http://www.hapshack.com/images/MsPKm.jpg http://www.hapshack.com/images/v52pb.jpg |

Hi Maxoo
I see you sourced some prop shafts What did they come from? Here's a pic of my lipo chassis;) |
Hi,
Good Job! Is it only for 23mm lipo's? The driveshafts on the 3d printed test come from Tresrey. It's for the DEX410, but it's too short for the original Durango or aero A1... |
Very cool project. That's awesome you were able to get your hands on the Prototype and recreate history......It seems Gerd is back to his roots as well (Serpent 500). Keep up the great work!
|
Amazing work Maxoo. I remember seeing for the first time a Durango at Kampenhout that year, they were incredibly fast.
|
wow, my hat of to you. Learn the Cad software, convert a the drill for CNC. You got dedication and brains, and skills!

Thanks!!!
I hope that I'll have time to work on it and post news pics soon! |

last update with steering!
Finished soon! http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/...2-img-0735.jpg http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/...2-img-0736.jpg http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/...2-img-0737.jpg |
This is fantastic.
Question, is the steering cross member or brace(carbon) attached to the two aluminium braces with epoxy or some other glue? |
Looks great! Nice work.
I think the first durangos used losi shocks, b4 rear arms and bj4 front arms. Anybody got response when you asked if he sells this conversion? |
I spoke with the author last more than a year ago. I want one of the kits, but have not heard anything for just over a year.
The earlier alloy chassis Durangos mostly used Schumacher cat 3000 suspension components, and later cars used Tamiya trf 501/502 components. In fact the geometry of the production dex410 is almost identical to the Tamiya items. I have tried Tamiya trf502 suspension on my v3/4 and it works well, although it is delicate compared to the bombproof Durango parts. |
Awesome work pal

Now I'm working on the body, so I did a positive plaster mold, a negative silicon mold and a positive resin mold (special resin for vacuum forming).
If you know which filler I can use to do some little repair, your ideas are welcome. The problem is the temperature of the polycarbonate. Maybe "tamiya putty" or 1:1 car filler??? https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers...6-img-1318.jpg https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers...6-img-1321.jpg https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers...6-img-1320.jpg |
Any new or more info available

The result is not so bad, but I have to place the mold on a wood plate to have better corners! https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers...1-img-1336.jpg https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers...0-img-1333.jpg https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers...1-img-1335.jpg |
