What was the best overall offroad motor of the 80's
 

I always wondered which was the best offroad motor of the 80's. My curiosity arise since in my childhood the "best" that I ever had was the Le Mans 240ST that came with my Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid SE. I could not afford for a better motor so I always wondered and glanced at the pretty looking Le Mans, the Trinity's and Reedy's with awe....
So for those of you who had or knew, which was the best for 2wd overall motor and the best for 4wd overall.

On a side note; Could someone confirm the release date of the Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid Special, thanks!

I raced my ZX-R with a Groupner Le Mans 240T and that was like greased squiril sh*t!!
(90's not 80's tho I guess)
Kyosho 05 stock motor in my '88 Raider was great. Never serviced. Never broke.

I actually drow my daughters carpet racer last weekend with an kyosho stock 05 damn with 3000 mah batts the run time seams like forever....

I had a Peak Perf Wild Thing (14x2) on my Egress and as its name suggests, it was a beast!

Performance aside, personnaly I think the aesthetics of the Le Mans series are still unbeaten. Everything screams performance on those puppies! Wonder why they don't make graphics like this anymore on modern motors...

I totally agree with Gayo, I never had the chance to own one high end Le Mans in the past, but one thing for sure is that those motors where so well built; machined cans and in some machined endbells. The can sticker alone sells!!!

Peak Performance 16-3 for all round nice and smooth.
Peak Performance 14-2 wild thing beast of a motor . Best can Trinity .all sat in a motor box in the loft ..

trinity monster horsepower 1987 world champ black can rebuild-able adjustable timing. endbell heatsinks. melted a tamiya connector lol.

reedy mr series for me

I remember running Nikko double 19,s in a Brat and LWB Cat. Was amazed at the time at the punch it had but it ran super hot, the motor was stolen at Cranford one friday night.

I still have a parma cylonce in my optima mid that's being rebuilt have no idea what turn it is.I always like the parma motors due to there ability to just keep going in all conditions.

Reedy Gold Star
 

In Australia in the early 90's one of the hottest motors around for 4wd modified was the Reedy Gold Star, 14 double, real nice motor bolted in a Yokomo YZ10.:)

Didnt think the reedy mr series was available in the 80's. in the 90's the most powerful off the shelf was corrally but Reedy Mr series was the most popular.

i seem to remember William mitcham with some very quick motors Team tanaplan if i remember correctly cant remember what they were based on though possibly epic

Tamiya Dynatech 02H was pretty cool. Fully adjustable, interchangeable 11 or 13 turn rotor, fluted case and less peaky than the Technigold.

Reedy it is then.

I usually used this kind of 1969 Honda CB750 (Arguably, the bike that started the superbike wars); and
1979 Honda CBX .I consider this as the best in my side it is because they don't have any explanation that you required and this is the reason why I am still using this.
