Cougar SV diff troubles!
well, didn't have the best of starts with my cougar this weekend - only managing to finish two heats at Bury metro due to the diff unwinding itself and the circlip coming out of its groove. When it did go tho, it was superb! waaay waaay better than my tired xxx!. Another guy pitting near me was having the same problems with his. Is this a common issue? quality issue with the parts maybe? or just the numpty assembling it?

I think the team drivers have done a fix for the diff problem in one of the cougar setup threads

You have to be carefull when putting the Circlip in.
Before you put the circlip into the diff outdrive, make the circlip wider i.e spread the actual width of the shortest point. When you put it into the diff halve, it needs to be a very tight fit - you shouldnt be able to even rotate it with a small screw driver. When it is this tight you wont have anymore problems. Si |
in the new instruction manual that was with your kit there a page floating around the front page, explains it all in detail if built right you should have no issues, if your having probs at southport next time come see me ill take a look for you

I think it's more a tolerance issue as there only seems to be a few people experiencing the issue.
You should have come over and seen one of the Schumacher guys, any of us would have had a look over it for you :thumbsup: |

I don't have any fancy circlip pliers, so my bodge it in method worked well, the circlip was nice and tight. I'm not sure how I'm going to get it out again but hey ho... |

I knew of some other team drivers having issues early on and until yesterday my diffs were fine. Had one go on me at the Mid-West Regional yesterday and that was the same diff that I'd ran in the car for well over 100 minutes of racing.
The build is key as Mossy mentions but as with any maintenance I would check the diff every so often to save future issues |

I did try opening the circlip up before installation, but then wasn't taking much care not to squeeze it more than needed, this, and putting it in and taking it out several times could be the problem. Got some new parts on the way, so I'll take more care when assembling it next time. Thanks for the help guys Ste |

Ran mine today on our local indoor carpet track for well over 20mins constant without any probs at all. Brought it home and stripped it for inspection and all is well. Handled beautifully too! Very chuffed.:D:D

My circlip is loose too, i tried making it fit tight but failed.:(
i just can't get it in without pushing it's legs against eachother. Any advice? dont want to kill my diff first time out. |
take it out and stretch as per paper insert in the manual, then when fitting it don't use the c lip pliers but don it buy hand, use a flat screw driver and do it one side at a time push one side half way down or so, then push other side in a little bit at a time so as not to twist it, when you here a click you no its in and make sure it isn't easy moved with he screwdriver,it should be hard or impossible to turn.
