clever little box!

when I first saw this I thought what a load of crap, but there is one moment in the video that changed my mind

http://www.hpieurope.com/show_video....en&videoID=111

I think it might be pretty 'odd' to drive with one, but you can't say this isn't clever!!

Wow im amazed thts really cool. I had a go with a drift car once but wasnt that impressed because it just didnt go in a straight line very fast lol.

jimmy 11-12-2007 02:13 PM

I got a 'cheap' version, not a hpi one, and did alittle write up on it that must be kicking around somewhere on my hard drive. It definitely helped in some situations but when I got onto a high grip corner the gyro didn't understand a car could turn so quickly and turned OUT of the corner - pushing me wide.

On a really low traction surface though it was quite fun

would this be any good in a 2wd buggy racing on slippy floor/carpet track, or would the buggy's speed be to fast for the dbox to react

antnee 11-12-2007 04:27 PM

Most of that is filmed at bedworth :) good track :)

Isn't it just an overpriced gyro or something?

not too fast to react - the one I used was instant. good on the slippy, crap on the carpet I think would be the answer! :)

I would just like to make clear, that this box *might* not be allowed at BRCA events.

I was just posting the gadget because I thought it was clever.

Robbiejuk 11-12-2007 05:20 PM

I wouldn't have thought it would be legal, they banned the sensored gyros ages ago in touring cars, and so they should. Takes away some of the skill of driving if you ask me. There is nothing better than coming out of a corner completly sideways and catching it with a bit of opposite lock yourself :D

F1 are getting rid of traction control so we definatly shouldn't be allowing stuff like this into racing imho.

mole2k 11-12-2007 05:21 PM

Im not sure I can imagine actually driving with one of these, i mean wont you be automatically correcting the slides anyway without thinking about it ?

jimmy 11-12-2007 05:34 PM

yeah it doesnt stop you correcting slides, but it will be dancing about correcting it even faster than your hand can move (if you have the sensitivity turned up)
I thought it was surprisingly good. Even over VERY rough ground like the batley track / round the clay, it was correcting the car after it was thrown around so I could rail round with a lil more control, at least it felt that way to me. Like i said tho, once I got onto the rest of the track it was far slower than without it because of the lack of steering lock

its banned under the BRCA rule of not having anything like this plugged into the receiver.

Ben Cosgrove was using one in a micro drift at don valley at the weekend. looked well impressive.

When I did Eurocup they allowed them in the F1 class once (ishy should remember) when they were 2wd. they looked awesome, because you could just throw the car into a corner and if the rear started to step out it just adjusted the steering accordingly, so some really fast time were set that year.

looks like 10th EC rule 3.13 Driver Aids: & 10th IC rule 10.16 Driver Aids: don't allow them,

no mention in any other class

xx4-nutter 11-12-2007 06:57 PM

i remember seeing this a while back and thought nothing of it, but damn thats one hell of a gadget !

that would be ace to try in a 4wd buggy ! :D

big air 11-12-2007 07:21 PM

whats the cost??? fancy one for a laugh :D

josh_smaxx 11-12-2007 07:28 PM

I think there about £70, where last time i looked anyway.

ben 11-12-2007 07:31 PM

I dont think they would be too good in a buggy because there is so many bumps and stuff so i dont think it would be able to handle it.
