The real effect

The real effect of the serpent and tekin designs is a live real axle. Exactly the same movements. Only benefit is you could build a set up somewhere half way. Might be better for on road but off road...

Testing

Well the first real outing on a race track has had good results.
1. It does jump like the FS, corrections in the air are very easy and controlled. Better than an RB5 - Yes.
2. In the hair pins...

Weight position

Looking at other mid motor cars It seems all have the batteries and motor positioned behind the cars centre line.

I know the car would handle better if the weight was 35/65 with less overall...

Weight bias

Thanks for the comments.
Well its 40/60 at present but thats only due to the weight added under the cells. Total weight is 1650 which is very heavy but it does hold it very straight on the rough...

The FS slipper doesnt use a thrust bearing, so is much stiffer in the action once built up into a diff.

Has a shim stack type of piston.
Low speed adjusted by diffent size holes.
High adjusted by more-less shims.

Optimal?

So wht is the conclusion with what we actually are trying to acheive?
A perfectly linear damping curve?

This might be great for corner handling, but what about the big jump landings?

These...

Bump stops

Quote
low speed damping - slow (for body roll and cornering)
high speed damping - fast (to deal with stutter bumps)
(now here is the catch)
high speed damping - slow (to land the big jumps)

Wont work as well

Gear diffs have a different action under load. Gear diffs have a generally linear resistance to turning;
Ball diffs act like a proper limited slip diff should, light action when turning, then a...

Does anyone make a data logger for shocks this small? If we put this on the track, then we might have an idea of what speeds various bumps are producing.

Damper rates

This is the thread I've been waiting for.

After working on numerous Mounain bike suspension systems and creating some great acting forks in the process. I though shim stack pistons in an RC car...

Some comments.

Having a short font shaft compared to a long rear shaft doesn't effect power transfer.

Yes its done with the original FS slipper setup, very similar like the XX4 duel slipper....

Thats the next step for me. The best bit is that it converts back to a slipper, just swap spurs/balls, for a spur/pads.

It think the difference from the old days might be that it doesnt use a...

Spur

No, the drive on the high grip sections is better, the front wheels dont spin if the traction is there.
On the dirt the front does spin if the diff is set too loose, but it is very easy to dial out....

Centre diff in a FS

So I was tinkering away with my FS the other day, and it hit me how easy it would be to convert the FS slipper to a centre diff.
You may ask why? Well our local track is 50/50 astro turf and loamy...
