Hey sp8y, that's a great first effort! That's really all you need to do, and it's easy with cans. If you want to get more complex shading and effects, airbrushes can make it happen. I'd recomend a G35 from airbrushes.com. They're getting great reviews and it's one of the cheapest decent brushes for about 35 quid.
If you want to develop your style, I'd recomend looking at any of the painter threads on here to help you pick up advise. I'm doing my headlights in this style:

It uses a bit more complex masking, some thinned black paint, silver and a colour of choice for the indicator. But you can take the ideas of any painter and adapt it to your style!
