Yes, but given the strength of most modern (ish) metal geared servos (even those with plastic geared servos) and hence low risk compared to the significant benefits in terms of steering feel and predictability I'm totally with Rich.
This is entirely based on by experience with the B4 servo saver but now been running a BJ4 off and on for approx a year with a KO2123 which has the plastic saver gear and not had an issue. This servo must be at least 5 years old.
