Sounds like an interesting experiment! feeling wise, looking at where the transmission is on the L1, I think it would feel similar to a KC with the motor in the most forward position.

I have done quite a lot of tinkering with Schumacher cars over the years. And the good news is I believe both chassis are flat, so if you own a L1 or have access to a chassis the first step would be to see if either you can locate the L1 chassis holes on a KC/Laydown chassis (i.e. using the L1 chassis as a template there is metal to drill for new holes on KC/ Laydown chassis) or vice versa! Would be better to locate it on the KC/Laydown chassis, and so if you can, you then need to be very sure everything is 'square', and the rear wish bones will end up approximately where they are currently on the Laydown, before getting your drill out.....

The above is just an overview, its tricky stuff, but could be possible. Personally I'd buy a second hand chassis from Ebay on the intended chassis to be drilled... And if you do it, do it to explore engineering and for fun rather than seeking performance I would say.
