Not a problem to do a coloured gearbox if its for the shelf
the issue i have is the plastic i use has a low melting point, so my concern is that if your motor gets hot which passes to the motorplate, it could start to effect the plastic in the gearbox which then leads to gears not meshing correctly. I have incorporated a heatsink / thermal barrier between the motorplate and gearbox but until we do some testing i don't know how effective it will be.
The black plastic would be what has been used on the S2 and i know that is not effected by temps.
