Good news! Any ideas on when it'll be released?

You asked if anyone knew if a 3 gear production will go into production. Well.. Someone knows

They tried it in the YZ2 (in design phase), but I don't know if they will release it. At the worlds the used a 4 gear, but the 3 gear B5M (Red conversion) was fast.

Lack of gear 3 (it was used by some team drivers) or 4 gear at the worlds in the yz2 wasn't the reason the car didn't win, and AE cars were "faster" on the day.. The AE cars were just a touch more consistent over the 5 spice ribs due to design of the front wishbone hanger not being underneath the chassis. On the YZ2 this was causing the car to bottom out and upset it. Tune the front to make it work on the 5 spice, and it was slower elsewhere on the track.
Everyone had issues with the 5 spice, seemingly except AE team drivers who triumphed. All the drivers I've spoken to at the world's despised the obstacle. Hold-down screws coming loose, the spacing and the shape made for terrible inconsistently at that part of the track. 3 or 4 gear tranny wasn't the issue.

The YZ2 is no lesser car for this, we won't be running the 5 spice bumps in our tracks.

In my mind, all the hype over 3 gear is centred around the B5M platform, and trying to overcome the limitation with the rear weight bias and wrong rear shock tower placement on high traction tracks. 3 gear motor rotational forces work to reduce rear grip, which on the b5m is what you want. If anyone recalls the Durango dex210, it came with build options for both, but I never saw anyone run 3-mm?
YZ2 has the grip and weight bias tuning needed for both super high down to medium/low traction without a 3 gear box. Lee, Tom and Shin have been running 3 gear, and Yokomo have the part prototyped, and could produce it as an add-on if it was an essential improvement.

I was at Teesside last week and they had 4 or 5 bits of 2 inch wide wood screwed down similar to the track at Japan and it worked quit well . They also had a sheet of plastic down on a corner and that worked to .

I would have rather of been at Japan like .

How does the YZ-2 go at Worksop? I am heading to the next round and have the Yz-2 or y-mad to try... Would rather run the Yz-2 unless it just can't get traction!

Mine was awesome last season. Not run it at this season as yet as I wasn't at round one.

The key thing to having traction at worksop is tyres. Brand new ones were awful, but fresh ones broken in on carpet elsewhere were excellent.

I'm just playing with the Ymax setup on much looser surfaces than worksop, but I'm most likely going to run the YZ2, as I already have that locked in.

I also have problem with landing.
My car also wants to bounce back.
I'm running 2x1.6 pistons in front with AE 40 wt and 2x1.7 with 30 wt in rear.
Yatabe yellow front and yatabe green rear.
I have tried 2x1.6 and 3x1.4 instead in rear but that didn't help.

And in addition to that question;

Do you land on flat ground or the downramp of a jump?

You could try thicker oil.

No rebound.
I'm only have the problem when the car lands flat after a big jump.
Is it maybe the yatabe springs?
Or should I make the holes in the rims bigger so the air comes out faster.
I want to try more drop but I'm afraid the driveshafts are to short.

Shocks on the back, ball diff and kit springs. I also use pretty much a kit set up with camber links etc. Do that and tweak from there.

Cheers
Chris

Whats the opinion on weight?

Will an under lipo weight do the job?

The Yokomo brass stuff seems hard to get hold. There are the SMC parts but the shipping is more than the parts themselves! Contacted SMC and they said more than one set will still be the same price to post so was thinking to see if anyone else wanted to go with me to get a few sets over???

Just add lead weights to where you need them. Personally feel the brass parts are overkill - the car is well balanced as is, so just needs distributing out if you feel the need to run a heavier car.

I did last weekend on dry astro and I liked it. Although my focus was on tweaking my YZ-4 set-up and left the YZ-2 as it was before swapping the transmission, it felt better on power and when braking. I doubt I'll ever switch back to the 4-gear transmission.
One of our better drivers also made the switch and his timed laps were a second better with the 3-gear. However, he also tinkered with several versions of yellow Schumachern Minipins, so not all of it may be down to the new gearbox. All in all, I'd recommend it to everyone having a 1st gen YZ-2. I am looking forward to next week's NORC race at the Intermodellbau model show in Dortmund, although I currently prefer my 4WD ride.

I did at Southport (high grip Astro), I felt quicker but I am not good enough to know why :-(

Quicker through the corner & jumped a bit better.

2 full days at oOple Bury next Sunday, so I may have some better answers then.

No other changes other than 3 gear
