Hi loads of very nice shells

Can i ask what silver you used on the 44.2 shell in post #430 I really struggle with chrome lifting and want to use something a bit easier.
Also do you know what size nozzle your gun has for the liquid mask, and do you thin it if so what sort of ratio

Sorry for all the questions, any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers Dan.

Silver in post 430 is simply a pearl Createx silver. It's very, very translucent and I find a few nice thin coats, then backed with white or black depending if you want a light or darker silver. I stopped using chrome as it does lift - it's a bloody nightmare !

I bought some of Jon's (at RCS's) chrome (solvent based) but have not used it yet - i'm scared of chrome as i've had it lift too. Also other paint does not seem to adhere to the chrome.

With the standard pearl silver - it's fine - no such problems.

Big gun for the liquid mask is 0,5 - thinned very slightly, maybe 10 parts liquid mask to 1 part water. Sprays bloody lovely, but the pressure needs to be 40 - 50 psi on the compressor.

With the paints I spray around 20psi, sometimes a bit lowers for fine details.

I use one of Jon's airbrushes for most of the detail work and have a cheap gun at hand loaded with white and one with black normally to back other colours.

Jon's brush is around £95 but it sprays lovely, don't need to thin the Createx / Fascolour paints unless I want to and it sprays the pearls great too.

Cheers for the help Andy I have some of that pearl silver so that's good.

I'll have to get myself a gun for the mask, pressure is not a problem.
How many coats are you putting on?
when brushing it on by hand I do 1 thin coat to start then 2 slightly heavier ones which seems about right for me.

It's tricky with the mask - when you spray it - it goes on so flat it's hard to tell how thick it is ! I go for around 4 thin coats and then test the thickness on a part of the lexan that is not part of the shell. It's one of those where you get used to it and just know if there's enough on. I always find that too thin is a nightmare to get off so too thick is better !

Hi buddy. Cheers, it did turn out well, bit of a 'grower'

Not sure on the racing - my missus is busy again this weekend so might have to give it a miss - I will endeavour to make plans so I can come along if it's at all possible

Tricky One this - Pred X11. These shells have NO overspray film and there's a front & rear wing too as well as the shell not being symmetrical. Inspired by the KTM X-Bow colours - this one is for Leon Satchell.

I'm really happy with how this turned out, would like to keep it for my Pred, black really suits the Pred's mean shape.

Cheers fella
I've worked (still do) and also teach design so I enjoy the design part as much as the painting
Also - I like everything to be as perfect as possible - that's what comes from working on a mac all day. Only thing is when you are spraying - there is no 'undo' !

That Nitro buggy looks cool.

Here's the 10th scale I did a whole ago - all paint - no stickers.

Hi Andy,

Thanks again for doing such a good job on this shell for me

I appreciate that the colour choice is an odd one

Only just had a chance to get it from the Post Office but it looks amazing, much better than pictures can show, because of the paint type used.

Going to look the nuts for the soon starting NE regionals

Hi Andy,

I've cut out the shell and fitted it to the car and it looks stunning

I teamed it up with a black Schumacher wing, which I think works with the black tail end of the shell to set it off great.

Thanks again for an awesome job, just need hide some more pennies from the girlfriend to get a couple more done from you

P.S Apologies for the dirty wheels, it's straight after my Sunday at Dynamix and haven't had time to glue up some new ones.

Looks great with the black Wing

I can see why you wanted the gold now - to match all the bling on the car
