Diff fluids
I'm looking to move to diff fluids from the stock greased differentials in my 1/8 electric buggy.
So i'm going to need a starting point for oil weights... I know I will have to tear all the differential parts down F/C/R, thoroughly clean and re-assemble but with oil instead of grease. If it helps ill share some relevant details below; Caster EX1 Buggy Tekin 1900kv motor Castle Creation Mamba monster ESC Single softpack 4s LiPo Running on astro track surface with no jumps just rough sections. Any input is appreciated Thanks

Well a good starting point is 5/7/3 as a standard. From there you can play with driving style and track conditions.

I noticed you said your track has NO jumps. I realize in the U.S. we tend to have more jumps than many tracks in Europe. But, what is the mind set behind having NO jumps for an offroad track.
We sorta see having alot of jumps and even HUGE jumps as a challenge, an endurance factor for your car's parts, and just outright fun! I'm sure there is a reason I just don't understand or know it. |

Hey mate, thanks for your reply I just picked up a 3 oil set from LHS. it's a losi branded oil set with 2k, 5k & 7k oils. So not far from your recommendation

Yeah haha the US does have some crazy tracks! unlike the UK which is pretty tame in my opinion. Not so much a bad thing though It's nice to have your car on it's wheels rather than it's roof :P Well the actual reasoning behind my local track not having any jumps, I believe is because it's a 1/5 scale track. They are most popular over here they don't tend to handle the jumps as well so I am told, and so I can imagine. Although I was informed today by LHS owner that they have altered the track slightly and are planning to add a few jumps

1/5th scale says it all. The guys that run those over hear do not survive our 1/8th buggy tracks with all the jumps it has. they regularly walk away with $200 Dollars of damage each outing when they do! LOLOLOL
Heck i've seen those things do a traction roll fly 3-4 feet in the air and land on the corner of one of the arms and snap at least 3 times. When your tuggin 20-30lbs of car I can see the need to be cautious. |
