Default 4wd choice for astro

Hi,

I'm looking for an used 4wd car and will be racing on astro mainly. For now I'm leaning towards a XB4 but maybe there are other good options..

My priority is the durability and a good quality/ wear of parts. I'm a smooth driver so I like nimble cars, a good steering is important. Would like to avoid a chassis too complex to set up and maintain though as this is not my main category

What would be the best options?

XB4 ticks all those boxes

We've ran the XB4 since January after switching from AE (B44.1/2) and haven't been this satisfied with a 4WD ever.

Easy to set up, easy to wrench on and takes a beating as well.

We're so pleased with the performance and results we just signed up for the 2014 season to run this buggy.....as well as the new "XB2"

You wont regret getting one

And you even get a body and wheels in the box Sorry......just had to

does it need some diff shimming?

well I have to say this is tempting, I'm not the one pushing it here my girlfriend wants to drive 4wd as we only had 2wd buggies for now (2x sv1, 1x sv2)

BentKa I saw the XB2 in your signature since a few days, do you have it already or what?

always first to get the toys that's not fair

Just follow the instructions....

No we don't have the official XB2 yet......have just made our own after a lot of inputs from Nathan at Ralls Racing (sells weight kits, shock towers etc.).

Debating building one with a shorty and the motor rearwards and adding kick up to the chassis.......but the XB2 or a "conversion" kit for the XB4 is considered releasing very shortly.......so we'll hold our breath and wait a little longer

Video of Malin with her "XB2" at our local track running 6.5T boosted (a bit damp and lower grip then usual due to being late in the evening):

From the very first test with the "XB2":

a conversion kit would be great to have 2 cars in one

I remember of Nathan being the first guy that helped us in a race when we started 1/10 2wd in Charleroi, Belgium. Such a supportive and knowledgeable person

The xb2 looks very agressive in corner entries, I really like its handling on the vid.

That might actually happen for high grip astro and carpet......we'll see

Nathan is a great guy for sure

The lack of kick up in the front does make it kind of aggressive and prone to bucking over in the rear........but it works awesome on more open tracks.
If it gets too tight and twisty the B-Max2MR works better.....for Malin

The K1 is also awesome on astro especially once fitted with the gear diffs, nimble but also balanced and a good amount of steering. Strong, easy to work on and great build quality.

Back from our first try with the XB4 in Merchtem and we LOVE it. Very natural feeling car, good steering without being twitchy from the rear when a slide is coming (and it was wet today), balanced on the jumps.. It's just great. Now we will see how it holds up in the long run but our 1st impression is very good!

Here it is at the track

(this is an old pic it was wet today)

I'm very lucky with this the body because these are actually the colors I use for my cars, I even have my M11X that matches the scheme

Nice one!!!
BPT is a very nice track. I'm also a member there :-)
So maybe I see you there in the future.

Yes I've ordered the gear diffs, FAB and some alu hop ups with it :-)

For sure, we go there often on sunday or in the evenings when the weather is ok. I have a Cougar SV2 and a XB9E also. You can't miss us because my girlfriend is driving with me and we have a big dog too

Do you go in Kampenhout or Charleroi sometimes?

What are the main differences in handling between the K1 and XB4?

yes sometimes we go to Charleroi and Kampenhout, but mainly we race 1/8th nitro buggy and truggy. When this season ends we drive the 1/10th scale.

I still need to find out the biggest difference
But I think the biggest difference is the belt
