Default K1+SX3: What parts do they share?

Hi everyone,

I was looking at the K1 lately - from a design standpoint alone it's a really awesome car imo - but itīs outside my budget range, and second hand ones don't seem to be abundant. I couldnīt help but notice that the SX3's parts list might have more in common with the K1 than looks would suggest, and admittedly SX3s seem pretty affordable second hand

So, thatīs left me wondering: What parts do these cars share? Diffs, bulkheads and most importantly perhaps: suspension and suspension geometry.

The bulkheads sit slightly wider apart on the K1, so anything that bolts between them is un-usable without modding, shock towers, link mounts, etc. Front and rear suspension arms, yokes, hubs, arm mounts and all usable. Sx3 rear rear inner arm mount would need drilling out to 4mm to use on K1. Front driveshafts usable, not sure on rears. Sx3 rear arms have a short outer pivot pin from each side of the a arm, K1 uses a single long pivot pin, but still usable if you have the correct pivot pins. Diff metal parts look the same, but with different pulleys. All bulkheads are different.

Ok, so all in all it doesn't share as much then! When I was looking closely at the pictures I thought the cars had the same bulkheads, diff parts and that the only differences would be central chassis construction, shock towers and small vs. big bores... Guess that a K1 is the way to go then!

if you can not afford the K1 have a look at the DEX410RV3 super car and from MB Models well good value for money.
I did have a K1 but found it a bit weak as the shock towers and top gear box mouldings had to be replaced along with a few other parts during the time I had it.

Thanks for the advice Carb I like the DEX: I have a 2009 model as a shelfer from back when I was still collecting RCs - I was going to sell it, but it's market value is too low.

Anyway, I'm looking for a car with belt drive that can both take ball diffs and gear diffs - which narrows the choice down considerably I've always liked Schumacher's different approach in the construction - hence why I'm more interested in that than a TRF.

I recall that quite vividly from 2012's Kampenhout GP:

Anyway, belt drive it is for me - it has it's reasons. Just wondering by the way, are there any differences in the SX3 and K1 belts other than the length/amount of teeth they have?

K1 uses Bando belts which are/were an option part on the SX3.

Ok, thanks The bando belts are stronger I assume? And the pulleys can be re-used?

The Bando belt was better/stronger on the SX3 for the centre belt, the kit belt didn't last too long. Both types of belt run on the same pulleys.
K1 uses different pulleys to SX3 and as previously said only 2 belts compared to 3 belts on SX3.

Why not download both cars manuals and cross check what parts they share.
