X6 NEWBIE HELP !!!
Hi guys I'm an RC virgin so to speak!
Recently invested in a 2nd hand x6 and As I'm totally new to the world of RC I'm wondering what should b upgraded to giv myself half a chance at least !!!! The Car itself is pretty quick :-) or atleast it is for me ... I'm just not sure on handling etc .... The car has had a couple of upgrades in the form of a Lipo and a few titanium turnbuckles , carbon shock towers and the correct shocks for indoor racing ... But other than that I haven't a clue ... Can any 1 help with any advice ?? Cheers for yr reading time Craig |

Hi, I was in your shoes 1 year ago... Welcome to RC!
First... why do you want to upgrade a car that works? Get the good tyres for your track, a base setup or even better ask around if someone drives a X6² there. Then it will be a long time before you're limited by the car performance

Where do you race?
As above getting the right tires is 90% of the job.

As above but spend some time on set up.
Take the springs off and check the shocks are equal with the right amount & correct weight fluid. Put all your electrics and a battery in it and check the ride height(copy a set up sheet), camber and toe. Try to remove any excess slop in the linkages with new ball caps or shims on the hubs or arms but also make sure nothing is binding(best done with the shocks still off). Service the diff. (Videos on you tube). Make sure all the bearings are lubed and spin freely. You may need to experiment with adding weight but that can be tyre weights if you don't have brass weights. Only start upgrading if you start breaking stuff. Have fun. |

Firstly dan - I race at an indoor track , Caldicot South wales I have got a set of Schumacher mini pins that is good enough for our track at the mo .. PHIL- In a nutshell that's exactly the reply I was looking for .. I want to start at the basics I just didn't know what they were other than the obvious .. I just see that every persons bit of advice can only help |

Welcome to Rc welshcarter2012. I also suggest you maybe get one to one advice from other buggy drivers at your local club. Maybe find a setup off the net for a track with a similar surface to the one you regularly race on as a starting point and ask advice from other buggy drivers at the club on how to alter it to your liking. Good luck anyway

Mini pins are what we run indoors.
I think I might print off BBP's post above and check I have done all those points. Pm one of the x factory guys on here and ask for an indoor setup or you can google x6 indoors. Don't forget to have fun and a laugh with the other racers as that best thing about our crazy sport.

Great advice from Phil.
I can add: make sure the servo saver is screwed to the max, it helps a lot for steering. Schum stagger ribs (with no foam inside) can make a car easier to handle than front minipins, giving more consistent lap times. You can also cut 1-3 outermost rows of pins on the front. From what I see from googling Caldicot track, it's not 100% carpet. If there are several turns on hard slippy floor you can try using worn out minipins.

All the guys in the thread have the right idea - I do want to say, make sure you have fun!
The following link is the instruction manual for our K021 entire car. I would HIGHLY recommend reading the two sections toward the end: Final Set-up and Race Prep, and Paul's Tuning Section. The first of those especially goes through basic electronics set-up (mostly servo end points), breaking in your diff after a rebuild, and a quick list to go through each time before you hit the track. Getting in good habits regarding looking over your car, taking car of basic maintenance, etc, will go a long way to helping you get faster. For U.K. racing, especially on carpet or astro, we do recommend the ES 001 rear camber link extenders. Almost every U.K. car has them and most high-traction U.K. set-up sheets call for them. If you purchased your car in U.K. you likely have them already. If not, most model shops serviced by X Factory U.K. have them. Not terribly expensive.

See Craig Harris at caldicot club. I'm sure he will check the car out for you and also know an x6 setup that will work as he used to race xfactory a few years ago.
