True, a high point on the gear will drag all tue way round.

Best engineer in the world can't build a smooth diff with poor components.

Generally though its just flashing on the gears which scratches off with a Stanley knife.
(once you've found the offending tooth/ teeth!)

Ran mine for the first time at RHR at the weekend in my 210, ran it with 3000 diff oil, no shims on the outdrives, loved the way it handled, didnt really notice that much difference in overall handling, felt like i had more steering, more consistant when the track was dry, slightly more stable coming out of corners, felt easier to put the power down, harder to drive when track got slippy, I think i will try this at Coventry soon to see how it feels on a track i know well, overall I think I prefer this to a ball diff.

Try 60wt shock oil you'll notice the difference then!!

60wt shock oil in the diff, I even heard team associated black grease in the diff.

seems like you can put everything in this diff.

who runs what? and why 60wt shock oil ?

the more freely the diff works the quicker it will react to weigh transfer from wheel to wheel, allowing the car to turn in easier, and be able to get on the power with only the inside wheels driving makes getting back on the powers feel smoother.

I ran 50wt on polished wood block loads of steering and safe on the throttle!!

ran the diff on a med grip hardpacked dirt/clay track. at first I had 1000cst durango. That was way to thick, I put 50% less of the same oil and for a few minutes with 25% throttle and holding one wheel, and then the other wheel.
Diff became a little looser , less tight.
But still way to thick. when I go on throttle coming out on a turn the back of the dex is still nervous, I have to go real easy on power.

Im gonna try 50wt Losi oil and see how we get from there

Don't you find with such light oil the inside wheel "diffs out" under power, especially on the low grip surface?

When I went lighter oil on mine (on med grip astro), I found the back end was freed up a lot but had more of a tendency to spin out on the exit of tight hairpins etc...

yes but you can tune that out with the shocks and roll centres. As with all set up changes to gain one you loose another!

I have felt a lot of ball diffs at our track from different cars.
TLR 22, centro, b4.1 .
And they all feel much lighter.

Even the TLR 22 gear diff witk 3K diff oil feels lighter than my durango gear diff,

So Im not afraid it will " diff out "


I ran the ball diff at first with the dex210 and now I run the gear diff.
I could push the dex very hard with the ball diff and the back of the car just followed the front.
And now with the gear diff, I can not push as hard, but when I do the back just spins out under throttle, mostly on exit corners

Gear diffs do feel more positive,

Maybee you was getting a bit of slip through the ball diff, try backing the clutch off.

edit: I saw a neumann setup for indoor carpet low grip with around 650 cst oil, that is somewhat like losi 55 shock oil

650 is equivalent to 45 losi

I'm running 650 on both carpet and astro now

The ball diff might have been slipping a bit when you got on the power

Gear diff won't slip so all the powers you pit in all be going to the wheels.

set the clutch so you get 1.5 m to 2m of slip when pulling away

I found the gear diff is fine in the dry but a nightmare in the wet!

hi guys ,just building my new DEX210 ,now im at the diff gear build section.
i assembled the gear diff following instruction,once is all finished it feels a bit crunchy . is that normal???

had a swift talk/chat with hupo honigl.
He finds that the gear diff is not for a dirt track, just for indoor carpet or astro turf.

I can understand that. now that Im busy with the gear diff and when running on dirt you have to go so thin in oil to get the power down without spinning out.

I have no 50wt Losi oil in my gear diff and had it run in. it is now smooth and not so tight anymore. I feels right now when I feel it by hand. I just have to drive it yet on my track.
