Default The Lakeland Classic Weekend

Dates: 2nd & 3rd June 2018
Venue: South Lakes Model Car Club, Canal Head Track, Kendal, UK, LA9 7BY

Picture the scene … the mists clear over the nearby Lakeland fells, the sun rises on a warm and crystal-clear day, the smell of fresh-cut grass fills your senses. You place your classic vintage buggy on the start line and take to the rostrum. Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” is playing in your head as the start tones sound. You are transported back to the time and place where your passion for RC car racing began. Now you just need to harness that passion, return to the moment, and win the race …

South Lakes Model Car Club would like to invite you to our “Lakeland Classic Weekend” – 2 days of RC buggy racing focussed on vintage cars. If you like your wheels spoked, your motors brushed and your wings to have big side pods, this event is for you!

The race meeting will be at our Canal Head Circuit in central Kendal. This is classic grass-surface track with all the dust, dirt, and bumps you’d expect of this “old school” and characterful surface. It’s the kind of surface many of our vintage buggies were designed for and is just great fun to drive on. We’ll throw in a few ramps and jumps to make it a good challenge.

While the emphasis of the weekend will be vintage racing, modern buggies are also welcome and will be raced in separate classes.

The meeting will be made up of the following:

Saturday
2WD Vintage class
Modern 2WD class
3 heats and finals.

Endurance teams race
2 hour race

Trophy presentations

Sunday
4WD Vintage class
Modern 4WD class
3 heats and finals

Trophy presentations

The atmosphere at the event is expected to be relaxed and informal. We want people to come and enjoy their racing and not to have too much to worry about! Music from the ‘80s and ‘90s will be played in the pit area during the event to help set the tone.

Kendal is situated on the doorstep of the picturesque Lake District. So why not think of making a bit of a holiday out of your visit and spending a few days walking, cycling and site seeing in one of the country’s most popular tourist areas?

Directions

The Canal Head Track is situated in central Kendal off Canal Head North, directly behind Kendal Recycling centre and next to Kendal Snowsports Club. The postcode (LA9 7BY) should bring you close to the track if you are using a SatNav device or phone.

Kendal’s one way system will bring you over the River Kent via Miller Bridge. Directly after coming over the bridge, turn left into Bridge Street. At the road junction in front of “Gilkes”, turn left into Little Aynam. Take the next right into Canal Head North. Follow the road for 100 yards or so. As the road bears left, turn right into the continuation of Canal Head North. Drive straight ahead, past the entrance to the Recycling Centre. The track is then on your left. Drive into the ground and park where directed.
