Default BAD NEWS.......issues on site at Mendip RC Raceway

So,

We've been debating how to deal with a few issues that have arisen over the last few weeks, and have decided to start here.

We need to make it known to everyone that races at Mendip that we have 2 very negative and disappointing issues to report.

1) The container was recently "broken" into, and a number of items were stolen.

I put "broken" in quote marks because it looks like it was a key holder that has done it. The lock in question is very well protected and there are no signs of any damage or forced entry on the door.

The door was found open, and the pad lock missing, along with a leaf blower purchased by the offroad section, possibly another leaf blower that was the onroad sections from before, a strimmer bought by the onroad section, plus a generator and can of petrol.

Now although very annoyed, we weren't too concerned until we realised the generator was missing. That generator was borrowed of Kev's work, and was covering power duties while the big one is out of action.

After a short deliberation, it's been decided that this event is going to be reported to the police. Firstly to officially acknowledge it happening, and depending on how they decide to react, it leaves any further investigation in their hands. Since suspicion lays with ANY previous key holders at the club, this is clearly a very sensitive subject, and one we do not wish to deal with on our own.

If this kind of activity continues, it will be VERY difficult to sustain running the club at all.

2) The gas supply to the cafe is being REPEATEDLY turned off.

There is an emergency cut off valve directly underneath the kitchen/cafe. This valve shuts off all gas supply to the kitchen, including the gas powered fridge freezer that Helen and Mike use to store their stock in between our race meetings!

This valve needs to be left in the open on position at all times...except in the event of an emergency. On a number of occasions over the last 12 months this valve has been turned off by someone who should not be doing so. The last 2 times being...after the AGM, and again found off this morning. The result of which is a loss of stock and expenses being incurred that should be not be present.

Very simple. Why should Mike and Helen put themselves out for us. Let me be clear on this. We do not have anyone to run the cafe from within the club. We are very lucky to have Helen and Mike running the cafe, despite difficult times with low numbers that mean they barely make anything from it. Without them we do not have a cafe, so we must do everything we can to protect this relationship and prevent this from happening again.

The club and Helen and Mike are working together to ensure we manage the costs and earnings appropriately to keep this important facility running for the good of both the club and themselves.

If this continues, WE WILL HAVE NO CAFE !

So, what do we expect you to do about this?

We will not name names, but a number people involved with the Mendip club to some degree or other over the years have created an atmosphere that has become somewhat toxic. There any many factors at play with this and we are well aware of them, so please refrain from debating the in's and outs of it. That is not point for mentioning it.

I mention it solely because.....Mendip RC Raceway is starting fresh right now. The committee has completely changed, and the new blood are entirely unrelated to the history and past relationship failings at Mendip.

We will not be drawn into old arguments, grudges and issues. They are all history now.

We are starting from scratch...even more so thanks to recent events...and plan to rejuvenate and rebuild Mendip RC Raceway, the sole purpose being to make sure that it grows and continues to survive under it's own success for the good of all the forms of RC car racing we are able to support.

In future we expect all of our members and committee to do the same as any other sane and well ordered club. Be vigilant at ALL times of activities that can damage the club in any way.

Immediately report to myself or another member of the committee anything you see that might damage the the club in any way.

Both of these events are very obviously linked to people who know what they are doing, and have some history of some sort with the club. We have no evidence to categorically say who, and will not point fingers until such a time as we do. Suffice to say, if anything else happens, and we are able to react, we will.

In the meantime, be excellent to each other, it is your club! Without members and racers we are nothing...It can be difficult when people are acting with the exact opposite intentions, but all we are trying to do is provide the tools for you to enjoy the racing!
