Default xx4 slipper issues

so im trying to get my beast on the road and having issues with rebuilding the slipper.

i followed the manual and reconciled with the oople build but something not quite right. the pinion meshes with the spur nicely but drive is not transferred to the pulley. the spur screams away with no transfer to the pulley. i continue to tighten the locknut but little or no difference. i keep tightening to the point that it doesnt make sense to tighten the locknut anymore but still no difference!

it seems to me that the only issue could be that there is not adequate friction between the components that sit between the pulley and the spur - this means it can only be the slipper pad or the plate that sits between slipper bad and pulley...

any thoughts?

Check the pullys. Sometimes if you've ran the slipper too loose the pullys will melt and cause the problem you mention. Compare to a new set of pullys and see if there's a difference.

Sounds to me like you have missed a component or two when u rebuilt it.
There has to be enough spacer shims, components etc to be able to compress enough between the pin holding the rear slipper plate and the nut at the front. It only takes missing one of these components ie a shim or a spacer about 1mm thick and u will get what u are describing.
I'd take the layshaft back out of the car and check your components thoroughly with an exploded diagram(this is still on Losi website I think)

Then tighten the spur and check u are getting good resistance before u put back in the car as its not a quick in and out job on a xx4!!!

ok so rebuild it is then!

i always thought i could only check operation of the slipper once installed into the car under power?

should i be looking to test the slipper before i reassemble? what is the best way to do this?

yep checked already and they seem in fine order but will check again as will have to rebuild it anyway!

there is a hole in the centre of the layshaft put a 1.5mm allen key through it and then use it as a lever to keep the shaft still and try to spin the spur gear, it should be very hard to spin. intact if you tighten the slipper nut fully it should be dam near impossible to spin.

however you are right in that final setting of slipper should be done in the car.

It is easy to make a mistake with assembly of the slipper, just annoying if you find out once it's all back together...been there, done that. As Steve says just double check everything is as it should be and the correct way round etc, check the pullies and just take your time. You can test it up to a point just in your hand. Good Luck

When you take it apart do it in this sequence nut, 4xcone washers black plastic spacer, bearing.
Place a small shim behind the bearing, throw the plastic spacer away and replace with 2 x gold washers (as the plastics one will compress and do nothing), cone washers and a new 5/40 nut and you will be good to go.
