When you say m-troniks cheapy, what you got???

Proper Viper Oval all day long at 39.95 from most retailers is your best bet.

I've got two of the Viper Oval ESCs and apart from the slight inconsistency issue (one has brake, the other doesn't! ) I've not had a problem with them.

I wouldn't spend a penny more on my 'dave until the powers that be decide what's happening with the rules. £40 is still £40 if I end up being the only person racing brushed and need to go get myself a new ESC...
