Have you included import tax and vat in the calculation? If not add £50+ to it.

Looks a nice car. Will be interesting to see if it works on our astro and high grip tracks and how it stands up to the established conversions. I'm sure the kyosho drivers will be busy testing it during the winter.

The VAT on £300 alone would be £60, then import around £9 "if" it had not been factored in, it will work out cheaper in the long run for anyone looking at getting one to source from one of the UK outlets when it arrives...

Why is the Kyosho stuff so expensive ?

Is it due to the way it's brought into the uk / distributed etc - or is it generally more expensive than other brands worldwide ?

Still - its got to be cheaper than the kit & conversion options when you price up new kits rather than eBay bargains.

Your right Andy, i think its because it comes via FDL in france rather than direct from K.

Look at the prices in the States ... it's a bit more than most everywhere.
The quality of the components & cars in general are super high so it's a bit like comparing an Audi with a Kia.

Remember that Kyosho stuff is manufactured in Japan to super tight tolerances and that the YEN is quite strong against a lot of other currencies too.

The other thing to remember with Kyosho stuff is that quality means next to no worn out components to replace after many months (sometimes seasons) of running, very few breakages and it's all in the box ... no need to buy loads of upgrades to make it work / be durable (although the hop ups are there if you want them).

There are two reasons why I run Kyosho;

1) as an engineer used to working with sub-micron tolerances no other brand of 1/10th buggy feels 'right' in hand
2) I've very little disposable income, thus couldn't afford to keep replacing bits so I'd rather pay a little more up front to get a solid reliable car (just wish I'd done the same with my electronics too .. live and learn).

Add to that they are great to drive and the higher initial purchase price is soon forgotten ... I mean who the hell "WANTS" a Kia ;-)

the first rb5 had the same price but the newer ones (SP2, SP2WC) had normal prices. Kit price istnt the problem, I bought the RB5 when it came out in the US and paid 30 € more than a B4 would have been, but it is not the biggest fun to look for spare parts and tuning parts in many different countries just because you have to pay twice as much for some parts in any EU shop.

Kyosho stuff in general isnt super expensive looking at the nitro 8 scale stuff ists very reasonable priced aswell as most kits. And not every 2WD spare part is very expensive, just a few parts are far from normal, most plastic parts are cheaper than Losi but most steel parts are more expensive than any other brand

It is because it is from Japan, a VERY expensive country to buy out of right now sadly, just look at why CML have no Yokomo stuff at present and why the Sanwa Exzes-X is £430 at todays prices. Kyosho stuff is great quality BUT it is also made/sold from one of the dearest countries to export from right now.....

RogerM: I don't think it is very useful to compare rc cars with real cars as most premium real car brands use newest manufacturing techniques and cars are made with different goals in mind. There quite interesting low priced small cars on the market that deliver stunning quality for this market. Toyota Aygo for example isn't produced less intelligent than an Audi.

In RC most brands use average machiney and many companies even use the same factory. The injection point have to be removed on most plastic parts by hand. That is not a problem but shows that Kyosho does surly not have the best machinery in RC (but by far not the worst ).
The first RB5 needed many tuning parts to make it comparable to others, so I wouldn't speek in general. I couldnt see a difference in wearing between a RB5 and other cars in general (22 for example apart from a few issues the 22 kit has). Differences are really small and in other classes with more different cars there are at least 5 brands with stuff at the same level For me the RB5 has two pros: outstanding shocks and the newest cars eliminated every problem the first cars had.

If it was just the fact it is made in japan than it wouldn't be so cheap to buy parts in Japan on your own. Even cheaper with import taxes and shipping, looking at this it can only be the distributors or distributors have to buy in local japan shops too.

The problem is everyone is cash strapped within reason !

Team Losi TLR22 RRP is £215
Tamiya TRF201 RRP is £220
Schumacher SV2 RRP is £220

Kyosho RB6 Rough RRP £340

I've own plenty of Kyosho's back in the day, but I find them no better than any other manufacture when you bare in mind the extra price

Car's will always break if hit hard enough or driven incorrectly
Even the best have accidents and break, so spares are a must, so on top of the kit you've got to add at least £50 of spares hopups etc !

Just think that the extra price isn't justified
But if people want this car they will pay it, so they can keep charging these outrageous prices and get away with it

The DB1 conversion is a prime example, put the car in the right hands, then us mortals are convinced its the best car and a must have no matter the cost !!
