Default Which Touring Car ?

I'm thinking about getting a Tourer to race at Garforth over the winter again.
Last time I had an Xray T1R, and very good it was too.

As i'm only a casual racer, what would be a good car to go for this time around. Also what tyres / motor etc do most people run at garforth ?

Ideally I want a car that's popular, and one that Bally keeps spares for if I prang it. Any reccomendations appreciated as i've lost touch with the Touring Car world.

Ta.

As you know andy (and probably whats prompted you back onto the touring thing) I was looking at the T2r and the HotBodies cyclone S, both quite cheap.

That Tamiya TA05 they talked about actually looks pretty darn good, just not sure about getting spares locally or getting a setup for them etc, might not be that popular at garforth.

Cheers Jimmy.

I couldn't remember the name of the Cyclone Car. Looks ok i suppose, not sure about plastic shocks !

I think I might go with the Xray, the T1R I had was bullet proof, the build quality was amazing, so I might stick with what I know unless there's something better ?

I really enjoyed running the T1R, so am looking forward to getting a TC again.
Where you getting your Jimmy ?

Andy.

not sure yet mate, still not even decided on cars!
The Xray looks very nice indeed - I am a sucker for those moulded chassis tho, not sure why.
I'd prefer to have same car as you so if you do get the t2r let me know - might not get the same but it would be useful for us amateurs to stick together I guess.

Just had a 'sniff' around on the web to see whats around. I remember almost buying a Corally Assasin when I got the T1R, but it was a bit expensive at the time, around 400 notes I think !

They do one called the RDX now, which looks like a very nicely engineered bit of kit. Modeltech.co.uk have some bizarre RC Labs cars on offer at the moment, which look very well, if not over engineered ?

I'm going to mull it over, might be worth getting the full fat Xray 07 I think it's called, I remember buying a one way diff for the T1R that cost a packet, so it might be more cost effective to go straight for the 'proper' model.

Now i've had a look a the cyclone, I reckon it looks a bit cheap ? The Xray T2R looks much more professional for the same cash ?

Anyhow, let me know if you order owt Jimmy.

I like the look of that tamiya ta05 thing, but by the time you add a oneway, proper shocks and cvd's it starts to get a bit silly money for a plastic car.

I still like the look of that HB andy but its certainly a long way behind the Xray in terms of quality bits, shoddy pressed motor mount and stuff, bah.

Last time I saw any touring racing, people seemed to be using spools up front rather than oneways, is that still pretty popular ??
I've never used a one way in a touring car.

Jimmy, if you are getting the Xray T2R for garforth, you'll be best using a spool, and use the highest roll centre at the front, lowest at the rear ( micheal ball gave me those tips lOL)

Tbh I'm not sure there would be enough use in it mate, Garforth have a good site already with their own forum so not sure it would get used enought to be worth the extra clutter.

Perhaps I should change this to a more general touring section though rather than just a Batley touring section since its little-used by batley tourers. ?

Please don't do a touring car section Jimmy

Thats what I like about this place - I can get away from TCs for a few minutes each day

Was there a typo in the title of this post... Did you mean 'Why touring cars?'

No it wasn't a typo. I enjoyed racing touring cars a couple of years ago and am looking forward to having another bash.

Shame people don't just embrace the rc hobby as a whole rather than taking sides, after all it's in need of new members in both buggies and tourers in our region.

Back onto topic, what kind of tyres are run at GTCC these days ?

Looking very much like an Xray T2R for me Jimmy, might go visit Bally on Friday after work ! Quite looking forward to painting a tourer shell again, so much space !

Just spoke to Bally at MB, aparently the T2R's are like rocking horse s**t, so no chance of getting one until a couple of months time !

Might wait till I get back from my Hols, Bally said it's really the one to go for.
