Default Xbox 360 won't display HD :(

I setup my xbox on Monday using the composite cables as I didn't have a HDMI cable at the time so now i have PSone quality graphics, but at least it's playable.

I borrowed a HDMI cable last night to try, but the TV just says no signal. When I goto the display settings the HDTV tab is greyed out. The TV is a cheap 20", but it does have a HDMI plug on it (only 1 lol).

I've used the HDMI port before so I can confirm that works and I've been told the cable is ok... I've got my own cable+xbox AV output thingy so I can connect my turtle beach properly which will hopefully be here today.

My next plan was to set it back to factory and start it up with HDMI plugged in.

Easy fix, get a ps3 lol!

Make sure your x box is only outputting 720p rather than 1080p/i (whatever xbox uses) as it could just be set too high for the tv if its only a hd ready one rather than full hd.

I'll double check that doggy. Probably cos it's 1 of those cheapo tesco TVs or something lol

playing on the composite connection is interesting lol. I can't see people in MW3 if they have a gilly on!

Is the slide toggle switch set to HD on the lead on the back of the xbox?

I think because my console is the slim latest one it has separate HDMI / Composite outputs. I don't think I have that switch. I'll look when I get home now I have my new cables and also plug it into a better quality TV

Regarding only one hdmi input on the tv, been using one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDMI-3-INP...ht_1757wt_1187 with dvd/hummy/games. works well, first device switched on is put through to tv.

Using the composite lead to hook upto your TV, check the xbox settings menu. You may be able to change the output types in there too.

I know on my PS3 I had to change settings to allow the sound to go through the HDMI lead.
