Default Telemetry

Hi guys, Just want your views on telemetry from your handsets i/e engine temp....revs...battery voltage...fuel tank depth.......would it be something youd want from your handset or not bothered at all...what else would you want if it could be made available?

I think Spektrum and Eagle Tree do systems.

There used to be the Nomadio Sensor radio whose big selling point was the real time telemetry. Such a big seller that Nomadio stopped making radios altogether.
The Eagle Tree datalogger first came into the UK through RC-Direct, but it's now imported by a company that specialises in plane telemetry.

Telemetry doesn't seem to appeal to racers.

It is written into the 1/8th off road rules to ban it. Data logging isn't specifically banned in 1/10th, but no doubt someone could try arguing the point regarding rule 23.13.

23.13 The 1/10th Off Road Committee are empowered to legislate at any time against any new equipment that in the opinion of the committee detracts from the essential skill of the driver controlling the car during racing.

Actually Terry your very wrong.

ALL BRCA clubs HAVE to comply to the BRCA general rules as do ALL sections

http://www.brca.org/sites/default/fi...204%20Site.pdf

below are quotes from the handbook general rules. (this was also the same for 2011)

10. Radio Equipment
The BRCA recognises the UKRCC as the national
authority for the UK on radio equipment.
The BRCA will work within the rules and
guidelines specified by the UKRCC RC Equipment
must be used in accordance with the manufacturers
guidelines. Any modification to any
component that may affect performance and/or

power of original equipments is specifically not
allowed. This applies especially to the aerial and
power source.
Only published frequencies are allowed (see
Handbook). The reversal of crystals is not allowed.
It is not allowed to use any form of active telemetry,
which in the opinion of the event officials
or steward, is judged to give a competitor
an advantage during any race. Therefore, it is
not allowed for any radio/wireless signals to be
transmitted from the car to an external source
during a race, that is judged by the officials to
give the driver a competitive advantage during
that particular race.

This is a sad thread sorry but at the end of the day it's toy car racing not F1. What would telemetry actually do for you?? In reality nothing except people thinking they are Ross brawn.

The Eagle Tree Data Recorder and the Novak Data Sentry do not transmit any radio signal. Any data logger that does not send live information to the driver is not banned at all. You specifically highlighted the words "data logging", there is nothing in the rules that ban storing data to download after the race.

The relevant words in the rules that you have quoted above for your argument are:
Quote:
Therefore, it is not allowed for any radio/wireless signals to be transmitted from the car to an external source during a race, that is judged by the officials to give the driver a competitive advantage during that particular race.
This bans the Nomadio Sensor which updates the transmitter screen and bans the Eagle Tree Seagull Dashboard System which give live information to a laptop, but neither of them are plain data loggers.

There is nothing in the rules that bans the Eagle Tree USB Car Data Recorder or the Novak Data Sentry, both of them need to be plugged into the USB port of a computer to enable you to read the data. They don't transmit any signal from the car while it is recording the data, and the recorded information is impossible to give the driver a "competitive advantage" during that race as you can't read it until the race is finished.

Please feel free to examine the rules to find something that bans data logging that isn't transmitted during the race.

Like Johnboy my question is "what am I going to do with the information?" I don't want anything except capability and reliability in transmitting my wishes to the car from my Tx.

I don't have the mental capacity to read telemetry data on the fly during a race, and no chance of controlling any of the relevant adjustments that the data might tell me could be adjusted to my advantage. There is nothing I could do with the information!

More relevant is DCM's comments on data recording...

So The new sanwa m12 is out very soon and does telemetry. Surely a company that have won world championships wouldn't build an illegal radio? Or is it allowed as it only logs and can be read after the run?

Mark stop being silly what i do at a test or club event is down to me!!!!

these events are not run to BRCA rules they are run to club rules and testing no rules.

In answer to reading the data it is done after the run it is a colection of information no more.

how it is read or how you use it is up to the reader.

get off your high horses if this gent can manage to sort something out to be able to gather damper movement and g loading I for one will be very interested as would any of the manufactures.

having just started to be able to put dampers on damper rigs
cars in wind tunnels
cars on servo test rigs
this would then tie the information together.
good luck to you sir and please keep us informed.
