Default Any used car / insurance experts ?

I've finally found a car I want to buy, but as it's from a Private seller, that would leave me with my current car (a 99 ref Puma) as well as the new one.

My insurance company want £80 on top of a significant policy hike for the new car (a Civic Type R) and will only cover the Puma for 30 days after the main cover is moved to the Civic.

This only gives me 30 days to sell my Puma - otherwise i'm stuck with an uninsured car...

Any ideas / tips of how best to play this - the Puma is very low milage, decent in every way with plenty of MOT / Tax, new tyres etc, so I want to sell it rather than let 'webuyanycar.com' rip me off big time !

Cheers. Andy.

As said above just sorn the car (Statutory Off Road Notification). The puma will then need to be kept of the road in a driveway or garage or the nasty clamping monster may get it. Good choice on the type r. One car of mine which i really regret selling.

If I have to Sorn it, how do I sell it ?
Other headache is the Puma has a private plate on it, that's probably worth more than the car, bloody nightmare this stuff, why does it have to be so difficult ?

Anyone know if I could insure the Puma on some kind of limited mileage (classic ?) policy so I don't have just 30 days to sell it ?

The person buying the car will have there own policy of insurance to drive the car. Once they pay you for the car it becomes there problem. Just get a receipt of sale dated with the time.

Start advertising it now and if all else fails put it on the bay.

You can put the plate on retention and sell it on it's own and get the original plate put back on it.

Transfer the plate sorn the puma and claim the road fund licence back the new owner can then retax it on collection thus lifting the sorn notification

With all this Sorn stuff, what happens when / if a potential buyer wants to test drive the car ?
Or how do I drive it to a dealer if I end up selling it to one if I can't sell it privately ?
