Default COBRA (R)

With the BIG BORES Fitted, next up was to fit the electric's. I was undecided on battery location as at first I was going to run the battery across the chassis. Then thinking about it and all the other rear motor buggies, battery down the centre..

I had to drill the holes...…. thinking one slip, wrong position EHHHHH all over. But I pulled it off, the holes that is.....

I had 4 New alloy TRF Battery corners, which I fitted to the chassis and also allowed about a 10mm movement of the Lipo forward and back. I then had to drill 2 more holes for the battery posts.

With the electrics fitted, battery in the centre, wheels and tyres fitted, wing fitted and stickered. Just the body to dry and then FINAL PICTURES tomorrow.

COBRA (R) TRF 201 all wired...……...

Looks lovely. I like the extra space on the chassis a rear motor allows. Hope you don’t get the +ve and -ve mixed up!

I don't believe it..!.. Who else can build a one off car, while detailing it, and paint , too such a high standard, all in a few hours..!..🤔... 👏
I have to say, those TRF kits always look great and ahead of their time..

Thank you coolhands, I will be ok on the battery connections, but may put a little red heat shrink on the + side ....

I know what you mean about the room, was nice to have the room for once. Funny though as I spent around 5 mins wondering why the gear box didn't fit. Then realised it was rear motor not mid.....

I had built and prepped most of it Alan over the last week. I had computer problems which stopped me uploading as I built like normal, so had the pictures ready but couldn't upload.....

I did paint and sticker today though, and wired up yesterday......

I need to resolder my 4mm battery wire bullet connector - I need it 90 degree like yours as at the moment it is straight, and goes up and hits the body shell. Is yours regular but you just solder the wire at 90 degrees to it? Or are there 90 degree / special bullet connectors out there.

Default Soldering

Hi coolhands,

I normally use the CORALLY type battery connectors. 4mm and 5mm dependant of size in the battery (lipo).

I use this technique when I solder the connectors on the end of the wire.

As can be seen in the pictures I use,

Long nose pliers
Tamiya cross wrench/box spanner
Connector
Wire.

Just put the pliers in the biggest end of the box spanner, then use the other socket for the connector. You will need to rotate the spanner to see what size fits the connector.

This then holds the connector snug and firm and gives you total control when placing the wire and soldering on to the connector.

Hope that helps …...…………...
