Old SV new idler gears, bad fit?
Hello all,
I own a first generation Cougar SV. I received the new plastic transmission casings from Schumacher after the first ones turned out to be crap. Excellent service from Shuey by the way. Now recently it was time to replace the idlers. I got a note from my supplier that there were new items then the ones I ordered from my manual. The idler with shaft is now a single piece CNC alu version. And the other idler was alu and is now plastic. Fine by me, after I received them I bolted them right in according to the included instructions and .,......... A terrible tight spot. i mean really really bad. I cleaned everything before I started the assembly, I checked the bearings etc etc. Can anyone tell me how this went wrong? Greetings Hans |

really bad..........
Hello all,
Thanks for the comments so far, to answer how bad it is. If I want to turn the gears by hand I need to install all the gears including the spur. Only then can I rotate the gears by rotating the spur. If i just put the 2 idlers in and I try to turn the Shaft that comes out of the CNC idler, I need a plier to get past the tight spot. When everything is assembled I can rotate the gears fully but I feel heavy resistance. I think my motor will run through it but it will run hot I think. I might just give it a go on the bench without wheels and keep my eye on the temperature and see if it frees up....... Hans |

gears freed up
Hello all,
On the bench the gears freed up. After a while bolted on some wheels and took it to the track. It runs nicely now after a few packs that were noisy. Freeing the gears up took it's toll on the side gears though. They were brand new as well and the plastic one is pretty worn now, could that be because of the added strain of the tight spot?
