I "had" a Bullistorm 60amp,it blew after about 5 metres in my X6,sent it back(it took about 8 weeks for a replacement),the replacement did exactly the same thing and blew straight away.I then bought a Hobbywing EZRUN 60amp and have had no probs at all.The 2 speedos look identical except for the labels,i`m wondering whether theyre seconds or sub standard ones that have failed quality control ?Just a point of interest,Hobbyking are selling cheap LiPos that are not up to spec but at least theyre honest and advertise them as such.If you have a Bullistorm, good luck they are a bargain price,it will be interesting to see how long they last, cheers PC.

I think HW are a little more tried and tested, the bullistorm are pretty new to the market and have theie hicups.

Chippy what motor were you running?
Did you upgrade the software, I think that is a must.

So far I haven't had a problem with my 60A running a x12 8.5, but I havent raised all the settings to max, I think atm I would like a little more speed out of mine but a new smaller spur gear and another pinion will hopefully get what I would like.

Get the 120A if you can and upgrade the software to v3

Running 5.5T,no not upgraded yet,we (my son has the same combo) have plenty of speed, currently its powering a Mardave V12 with 1S so its not really under any strain. But when we go outdoors again - X6 with 2s, I will be getting the professional programme box to unlock the turbo ect, should be fun!!

The 60A is only rated for a 8.5T and under so yep a 5.5T will blow it up.

The upgraded software will help but for a 5.5T I would have at least a 120A if not more.

The 120 is for tops a 5.5T

i presume it didn't blow in the HW with a 5.5 because of software....

Actually, Hobbywing are Speed Passion's OEM. They've had speedos badged by Muchmore, Orion and HPI at various times too.

That's my point - these days there is so little difference between the "cheap chinezzzz" copy and the original that they are the same thing

sorry have to disagree col

i have hobbywing extreme stocks and the are vastly better quality than bullistorm (i have both so feel competent to have an opinion)

its like saying a toyota is like a daihatsu or hyundai its just not true there is a quality difference .

on the bulistorm the fans dont work unless you plug em in reverse and the solder posts fall out if youre not careful

regards dave

My 120A has been running fine with no issues. Admitedly its not that stressed running a 7.5 in a Cougar 2 which is too much for the chassis, I will probably pick up a cheap 10.5 turn and turn up the boost. But for £30 delivered to my door I dont think its been too bad.

As far as 60A versions blowing up running a 5.5 turn in a buggy then it does say its too much current draw for even a Hobbywing/Speed Passion 60A. The lower prices have got to mean lower quality FET's etc etc so your just pushing your luck even more!!!

Would love to hear how they go in a buggy with 6.5 / 7.5 motor

Or even a 13.5 / 10.5 using some of hobbywing stock softwear as i have a hobbywing xtream stock in a wet touring car and its rapid and as people have said it is the same as a speedpassion or the orion R10 speedo.

£42 120a posted is a bargin alongs it lasts

From looking at pics of both speedos the bullistorm just has the - and + wrong on the sticker compaired to the hobbwings an SP's so if thats all there is to complain about a speedo that costs £40 then get me one of these

I am not knocking the bullistorms if you have read the whole thread i have had two 60a units for a while and would not subject one to hi power motors what i am saying is that there is a difference in quality between genuine HW kit and a blatant ripoff copy

i am more than happy with them for what i paid for them but i wont be surprised if they dont last too long

Got mine today,

The Bad:
  • the fan fizzed out before it even reached max RPM for the 1st time
  • the receiver plug is very low quality
The Good:
  • It did hookup to the Hobbyking USB uplink software, and was able to do a software update
  • The price
  • On the bench the respons looks to be OK, didn't drive it btw .
Also note that you need to have a decent / good soldering iron, since you need to solder as quick as possible on the ESC itself.
