If the layshaft is built correctly tightening up the adjuster nut can't affect the position of the pulleys or front belt. All it should do is push the aluminium disk against the side of the front one way on the outside of the gearbox. Any grease on the disk will prevent it grabbing against the side of the one way. If the pulley is moving over then it isn't shimmed correctly against the bearing.

I'm going to try the reverse one way. I heard it put the brake action on the front wheels instead of the rear wheels?
Not much point on a ZX-R. The reverse one way will only work if you have the ZX centre ball diff and even then all it will do is most of the braking will be done by the front wheels.

I have a NIP set of LA-26 arms however these are the early type with the extra webbing. Are these exclusive to the original ZX and are they better/worse than the other style?

I found the webbed zx wishbones to be stronger, mind you breaking the zxr ones is almost impossible, but i have broken one.

There are 2 things I felt about the handling:

- The one way bearing makes the car extremely unstable under braking and at corner entry.

- The battery (a 2s lipo stick), if put all the way in the back makes the rear slide like crazy.

I couldn't do anything about the one way, but I placed the battery further towards the front (all the way against the plastic part that holds the upper tray). That made a huge difference.

Does anybody have a trick to lock that one way?
As Terry said, i think you havent built your layshaft correctly as thats the only thing that could cause this. Is the e clip fitted? Or is the one way faulty ( you can test by removing the pulley and put one way back on the layshaft and turn both ways).

Out of curiosity did you have a roll bar fitted as well?

I can check again but I rebuilt it, carefully checking step by step if everything was fitted like on the manual. Every shim, e-clip, pulley and bearing is there, fitted...
The One way works, but I didn't grease or oil it. Maybe I didn't fit the upper tray properly? The rubbing is very slight anyway and there is no sign of wear on the belt. :-)
So the reverse one way isn't recommended? ok

Reverse Hub means you will have no rear brakes at all.

Ive had the same one way issue as you and one issue was the e clip came lose and the other was due to the bearing i used instead of the thrust bearing between the pulleys. Sometimes you need to improvise as i find having zero slop left and right on the layshaft (almost zero) saves the belt. I used to use a hyper clutch with a bearing in the early 90's in between the pulleys and took the e clip out and made a difference but using the mk1 layshaft and zx i found the thrust bearing better.

The one way when the layshafts fitted correctly when tightend takes the one way option away. I prefered a lock nut rather than the kyosho allen key nut as the thread lock screwed on backwards did a better job. Im now intreagued as the only other option is the bearing surrounding the oneway or hub has collapsed giving far too much slop.

Thanks for the tips guys!

About the sway bars, I believe you're talking about the LAW-2. I fancy them but can't find some anywhere. I guess I could make custom ones but I really would like the LAW-2... Anyway, car is cleaned and back on shelf.

Im tempted to buy a set of the 14mm hexes Xray are making for their new 4wd buggy and also a set of their wheels and see if they work out the same width overall as the Annsman wheels I am currently using. The 4wd Xray wheels look rather nice.
