HB Ve8
Has anyone had a close look at this monster yet? I think I may have to spin further into debt. I'd like to see this in one of those wonderfull reviews you do here on this websight.

The plastic chassis is split into three pieces, so they can be removed/replaced easily. Unfortuanely, they have a tendancy to snap where they join.
Also, with no mechanical brakes, that car won't be very balanced. Seems to go alright though... Click me! Click me!

my caster went well enough at the neo without mechanical brakes. i do also see the added tunability of having mechanical brakes can be an advantage if sorted right but it definatly isnt essential.
having said this the advert says the car does have them but perhaps they are an option ??????, defo has the mounts to fit them tho  saw james heliwels ve8 at worksop round one, very nice piece of kit and some thing im hoping to add to my collection soon

The car does have mechanical brakes, currently not using them at the minute though..
The chassis is in 3 parts yes, the rear is braced so doesnt look it will break, infact its a very solid thing overall.. Ran it round the Worksop track with the SC10's / trucks just for a laugh really but its very agile, much more sothen my previous electric 8th, bit more of a feel towards a 10th.. I definately prefer it. The battery sots are a bit tight but as its plastic i can of course be dremelled.. More testing required but its better than a traditional conversion in my opinion

Thinking about it running less brake on the speedo will generate less heat build
up wouldn't it? So maybe running mechanical brakes could have a run time advantage?

alright, I've been reading on this thing on all the forums I can find all night. and I think I may have to pick one up for myself. But first I'll have to sell off my RC8Te. No need for two 1/8th's right now. I've noticed the most popular setup seems to be the cc mamba monster.... How is your's set up smokin? Are there any mandatory hopups to pick up with the kit?

The Mamba setup is the best i think, ive been running electric 8ths for over 18 months and thyeve been excellent. the 2700 combo is the best allrounder.
Kit seems really good as standard, all ive done is to put the angled plastic balljoints on the outside of the steering link (the standard ones catch a little) and put the ones i took offon the rear shocks for a fraction more droop. Ive been told the longer rear shocks are better but the standard seem fine so far ..

Just geared with standard spur/pinion, both metal so a bit of grease helps

Mechanical brakes definately aren't required. They are included in the Ve8 kit, but obviously, don't have to be fitted. The main advantage of mechanical brakes is that you can set front to rear bias.
However, they are heavier, and the extra servo will draw a little extra juice, which balances out the ESC braking generates heat argument. I definatley don't think that mechanical brakes give a run time advantage over ESC brakes considering the extra 80g of weight and drawing extra power. I would run the 2650kV Mamba on nothing more than 3S to be honest. On 4S, it will theoretically rev to 39220 rpm, which is a little high if you're after maximum efficiency and cool running. Not only that, gearing options will be more limited at a higher rpm. If you are looking for maximum run time, and aren't going for insanely high speeds (just a little more than a nitro), then a 2200kV motor on 4S is better suited. Gearing will depend on the voltage used, check my beginner's guide for details. The Mamba Monster has been around for a comparatively long time now, so I'd maintain they are the most reliable option out there. The Castle-Neu motors appear the best value for money right now in the absence of Medusa.
