Default New 'Sport' pack approval for low-cost 1S cells

The BRCA wish to allow low-cost 1S cells to be used in its national meetings in order to help with the costs of racing, and to promote the classes with lower power requirements. The Electric Board will maintain a list of these cells, which will be called 'Sport' packs. There will be no charge for adding these cells to the list, but the cells must come from a recognised EU distributor or retailer, and must be bought from an EU source by competitors.
These packs must conform to certain requirements. In summary, these requirements are:

· Maximum recommended retail price £25, maximum energy capacity 14Wh (about 4000mAh)
· In all other respects the cells must meet the BRCA LiPo 1S requirements

This change will allow low-cost 1S cells to be used at BRCA Nationals in any of our classes - 12th, GT10 and GT12. This change will take place with immediate effect so those retailers or distributors wanting to have cells approved need to send one sample to Paul Worsley, whose address is in the Handbook.
Additions to the list can be made at any time on a rolling basis, and not twice a year as with other cells.
A full set of requirements for adding cells to the list will be posted on the BRCA website.
For competitors using these cells, all the current rules and guidance for use and charging apply - charging must be in a LiPo sack, the maximum voltage is 4.20v when charged and no modifications are allowed to the hard case.

For the Chesterfield 1/12 National onwards we will allow the Core RC 3200 cell distributed by Schumacher in the UK.

As usual people, if you have any questions please post here or PM me or e-mail me and I will respond, or get answers. We hope this is useful to anyone who wants to use these cells and that, if there are others out there, you will encourage the EU retailer/distributor to send cells in to Paul Worsley for checking and, if OK, approval. The current list can be checked here as cells are added:

The Core cell is not added yet, but will be allowed for use immediately.
