Default SOUTHPORT RESULTS Rd 5 and OVERALL SERIES RESULTS

Another trip to the seasonal finale at the Southport track and another opportunity to enjoy the nightlife of this fantastic seaside town!

Big thanks to the Southport crew especially Eric Evison, Aidan Burke, Derek McLarney, Tommy Tansley and all the other helpers that made this event run really smoothly.

The crew provided us with a different layout of their ever evolving track this year but still featuring the concrete section onto the straight which can catch out the unwary especially if its wet!

Throughout practice and qualifying all Saturday the weather was fine, dry and very warm however the forecast for Sunday was for intermitent rain so the decision was taken to start Sunday qualifying at 9am, a decision some of the organisers would regret later after a late night on the town! Somewhere someone is missing a wheelchair! Enough said I think!

2WD - Pole position would be taken by Adam Perei driving his Team C TM2 from Luke Holdsworth driving a similiar car. However in the wet conditions Adam didn't make a great start to the first leg coming in fourth. It would be local hero Chris Evison who took leg one with his Schumacher KF from Luke Holdsworth. Adam was determined to win the series and followed up leg one's disappointment with two great drives to take both leg two and three with some great wheel to wheel racing against Luke and Chris in the changeable conditions.

4WD - Pole position would be claimed by young hotshot Luke Holdsworth driving the Team C TM4 with Chris Evison in second driving a Schumacher K2 and Adam Perei with his Team C TM4 would line up third. Credit to Luke's younger brother Josh who lined up fifth on the A final grid taking a well deserved second place in leg 3 with a great drive! Adam would go on to take leg one after mistakes by the leaders however Luke converted his pole to a win in leg 2 leaving a decider in leg three. Adam Perei duly took leg three after the challenge of Luke came to nought when his spur gear failed on the warm up lap, which was obviously disappointing for Luke but he must be pleased with his overall pace over the weekend and be one to watch in the next few years. Luke had done enough to take second overall and his brother Josh ended up third overall capping a good weekend for the brothers.

RC10 - Qualifying started well with five cars running and thats about as good as it got!

In round four Damian Whittle smashed the front wishbone off his car and Jim Dixon's spur gear was sounding decidedly unmeshed! Graham North had lost a wheel and Jack Wilkinson was intent on taking everybody he could out. Surprisingly the only car running well was Colin Kirkham's! After round four a vote was taken whether or not to carry on as we had little to no spares to fix the cars and it was decided that after four rounds, Graham North would be a worthy winner taking three qualifiers.

Thanks again to all the oOple crew for keeping the series going this year. It's been great from the Sunday of Bury onward KFC lesson learnt for me on the Saturday. Never take food from Aidan Burke. Once that was over, it was all good
