Default any nissan mechanics?

Hi
my mums just been quoted £700+ for a replacement throttle body and air flow meter on an x plate 998cc nissan micra, however the mechanic said you can just change the air flow meter which i can get for £45,
my local motorfactors have said i may need this calebrated and they only sell the complete throttle body/air flow together...
can the air flow meter just be replaced one for one or will it need calebrating? as the nissan mechanic didn't mention anything about this
thanks

Not so much calibrating, but it will need programming to the vehicles ecu. And the Main dealer selling the parts as a combo is common practice. Not that they are ripping your mum off perse. Just thats the way the manufacturer sells the appropriate parts. TBH for £700 you could buy another x reg Micra and throw that one in the bin!!

micra expert here

right the older k11 shape micras with cg10 and cg13 engines have a one piece throttle body with a thin film airflow meter mounted on oneside.
these do fail an cannot be repaired but all is not lost please try the following things first.

i take it the car is a flat as a pancake power wise or wont idle at mo, and your mum dosent drive it hard.

Just above the rad on the scuttle panel is a little fusebox approx 6inch long rectangular take the lid off an check for corrision as this will also give same fault, your normally find at least 2 fuses are corroded an terminals melted.
this may cure fault.
also pulling fuses 3 and 16 will wipe the ecu adapitive memory sometimes if this arnt driven hard they use up all the adapation trying to run lean or short trips.

if this dosent cure it recon throttle bodies are avaliable from here
http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/D...iledProduct=15 (manual version)

To fit remove old, take off airbox lid and with hose clip on lower lid an pull off, should be 4 10mm bolts, throttle cable and connector for throttle pos sensor.

replace with new to setup disconnect TPS sensor plug with engine running and turn idle bleed screw( sticks out at 45 deg towards servo) and set idle to 800 rpm, reconnect TPS loom jobs a goodun

i personally haven't spoken to the mechanic from nissan but he did say the air flow meter alone can be changed and that the throttle body was fine so im a bit confused now

http://www.worldcarparts.co.uk/tabid...6/Default.aspx as this site

sells the air flow seperatly
