GT12 Rules - a clarification

Thanks to all those who have been waiting while we clarified some of your questions about the GT12 Rules. You will find the Rules now on the BRCA website.

Some details were included that were not passed at the EGM in the first set. Nothing sinister, just a bit of confusion on our part (the Committee) that is a consequence of trying to do all this through e-mail by a lot of volunteers in their own time. These things happen.

One particular area was raising questions and debate on here - the allowable improvements to cars entered in GT12.1. This has been brought in line with the proposals passed at the EGM. It now includes the ability to use home-made parts. However...

The essence of circuit racing is to provide a competitive class through a set of Rules, and then encourage the ingenuity of drivers to improve their cars by clever little changes that might give a small edge, but are usually copied by others. In GT12, we want this to remain a cost-conscious class, so copying what others have done must be affordable and accessible. The Committee cannot second-guess everything you clever lot might come up with, so this aspect of the Rules will be kept under observation, and amendments will be put through to maintain the essence of the class as described in the first paragraph of the Rules.

Gents, to put not too fine a point on it, if people start buying lots of bits from different makers and making hybrid cars that effectively cost twice the rolling chassis price limit, we are going to put a stop to it. As quickly as drivers might come up with these ideas we will assess them and decide what to do. Expect us to focus on cost as the class develops!

There will be questions; please post here, or PM, or contact through the e-mail via the BRCA website. Here's what we have laid out as our intention for the class:

"This class is based on the principals of close, fair and low cost racing. This will make it both an ideal entry level class for the driver who wishes to try his or her hand at RC racing for the first time, but the rules for the class will also cater for the more competent driver who wishes to take their racing further. In the interests of keeping racing costs reasonable, price limits have been placed on certain items and there is strict guidance as to the use of additional upgrade parts and components. This should also ensure that the performance of each car is more dependent on driver ability and good setup than on budget.

The Rules outlined below may not necessarily cover every single aspect of car construction – drivers are required to follow the spirit and intention of these rules if any ambiguity is discovered."

This applies to cars entered in National competitions. Clubs will decide how they would like to run their local class and we hope that these Rules provide a structure they can adopt. There's room for 4-cell, 1S and 2S with Appendices covering recommendations where BRCA EB lists don't exist. If anyone wants more of this to help their Clubs, you know where to find us and we hope you will ask for inclusions. Appendices are open to improvement. Where you would like Rules to be changed, the EGM next year provides the forum for that to happen.

I hope that clarifies things for you all, and if it doesn't, please ask.
