There are more low cost options for wheels than sticks, so maybe now is the time to give it a try? (Particularly if price is important).
I find little difference between 2 and it wasn’t a big jump to go to wheel

No 4WD because nothing lives up to my original Optima. Until now maybe?...

I'm using a £40 Absima stick handset but I am probably changing that for the Futaba T4GRS at some point in the future.
Futaba seem to be the only company doing a mid range stick system, but they retail around £250 new.

Best budget wheel tx IMO is the Sanwa Mt-s I was always sticks when I raced 30 years ago, but now I have the Mt-s and its taken me a while but its getting a lot easier now, but a lot of that I suspect being down to the new speed of everything in the hobby,
