Wow, comprehensive, cheers mole! Appreciate the effort you spent on that post. Have been reading around and basically doing lots of trial and error adjustments until it looks okay, learning as I go. Then again, on my dodgy monitor what looks fine here could look poo elsewhere Will give some of your tips a whirl, including the local contrast enhancement step.

Few more to keep the thread moving:

What did you use for the red in that vodka shot Halcalanky ?

I never find myself taking setup still life style shots but its something I've wanted to try for ages.

Cant forget to take pictures of ducks and swans!

i recently went to a VSCC [vintage sports car club] meeting at Oulton Park and took a few pics. they r nothing special, but i was quite pleased with them because they were my first racing pics.

they of of the 1929 24 litre Napier Bentley [vintage bentley with a 24 litre napier lion W12 plane engine in}, its a monster, nd makes a great noise too

ino it says pictures we've taken, but i found these too from that same oulton park meeting not taken by me, but great pics. first one is of that same Napier Bentley, the second is of the Bentley Pacey Hassan Special.

the first lap of the hawthorn memorial race was eventive with a huge crash by Duncan Pittaway in an old GN vitesse. he was a very lucky guy as you can see from these photos..... [the full crash sequence again, not taken by me as i forgot my camera]

luckily he got out with just a broken collar bone and concussion

Again, there's some really cracking stuff going up on here. Who'd have thought we all do more than play with toy cars

@Telboy - you don't have to go far to take some pictures, it's how you look at the things around you.

Whilst in Monaco and Nice it's a bit easier:

You can also try to make something out of the mundane stuff at the end of the street:
