Tamiya DB02 / Leonis - Live Build
Tamiya fans have been awaiting the new 'DB02' chassis release eagerly and Kentech has a build of the new off road chassis underway on his blog - http://kentech.blogs.se/ The Leonis as it's called won't be out in Japan until the 17th apparently but Tamiya specialists 'Racing Factory' in Finland have the buggy already.

Motor mount is cool, you can leave the screws on the motor and take the motor out!

Probably because I'm either tired or stupid, I can't understand how that centre geared diff works without the spur being inline. surely the 2 prop shafts will spin in different directions???
simply cannot get my head round it at all lol

It is not a centre diff, the shafts spin in the same direction. All of the gears do not mesh together.

If all gears are in mesh then that drawing is wrong, if the the drive bevel gear next to the spur gear is rotating forwards as indicated the front bevel gear will rotate in the opposite direction.
But it looks like the gears are not all in mesh. It appears tha the left drive bevel gear is meshed to the rear driveshaft bevel gear and the right gear is only meshed with the front driveshaft bevel gear. If this is how the centre gearbox is then the drawing is correct. A strange solution indeed, I can't see the benefit of not meshing all four bevel gears but can see higher radial loads on the bearings. With the motor hanging out to the side I presume that the left/right balance of the car could be affected? But I suppose in the end it's hard to really know when only looking at photos. Would be interesting to see one in the flesh, and it would also be interesting to see reviews of how the car handles, if it works could this be a taste of things to come from TRF? |

I see exactly how it works now! shafts spin the same way, only 2 crown wheels meshing with each other on opposite sides
