Default Savox in a SV2

My son and I both run Savox servos in our SV2's.

At Area 51 between the 2 of us, the cars stripped both servo gears, Wesleys survived the day just, I had to put another servo in, so put a BRAND NEW sc-1252mg.

In less than 2 heats the gears stripped in that too.

My driving on that day was not the best but not the worst I've ever driven but you would expect a servo to last longer than 10 mins.

Anyway, my question is?

Is there a servo saver that can be fitted to the SV2 to stop this from happening as it could get expensive spending £15 on a gear set every 10 mins of running.

I am torn to move away from Savox but they are normally damn good servos.

Any advice very much appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

the gears are alot finer in the low profile servos, many choose to run the full size ones for the extra reliability, especially if you get it wrong regulary

What servo horn are you using if you use the kit plastic one that should break before the servo it's self . i've been running a savox servo with the kit plastic horn in my svr (same front end) for the last couple of meetings and it's been fine

At the same time, at some point or another it's our duty to come to grips with the fact that when we break something like a metal geared servo - especially 2 of them in 10 minutes - it's less about what's wrong with the product and more about what we as consumers are doing wrong.

And when you're talking about a small (low profile) servo that's intended for use in on-road cars (according to the manufacturer's specs) whose wheels are protected, it tells me you chose to go against common sense.
"Ideal for 1/10 scale touring/on-road" http://www.savoxusa.com/Savox_SC1252...avsc1252mg.htm

But ultimately, servos typically strip gears because you're hitting things or landing jumps with the wheels cranked to one side or another - so if you're going to choose to run them in your buggies you've got to drive very clean. Otherwise, go with standard sized servos like most of us mortals.

and thats my point, your using a full size servo, not low profile like the thread starter is using, Robby has summed it up perfectly!

These Savox Servos ran fine for 6 months in a Losi 22
So is there an issue with the SV2 and the 1251 Savox

I agree with the post above that I'd rather use the plastic stock horn and snap/strip this rather than do the servo in !!

I've done 2 in my SV2, another 2 lads at last round of Worksop that were pitting with me also went through servo gears also in their sv2s......I spoke to Robin Schumacher re this and he advised running a full size servo with slightly higher torque as the lower servos aren't quite up to it!

To be fair, I broke one servo off the main jump so that was my fault, the other wasn't anything dramatic!!

I'm aware that a well known team have done independent testing on torques of servos and they don't perform as well as they say they should!!

I like the low profile servos but if they don't cut the mustard then they must go!!!

The low profile we not strong enough or designed to be used in an open wheeled buggy that is prone to hitting things, good drivers may be ok I damaged one, fitted a larger version and have had no problem.

Correct Robby just pointing out the fact that i've never had a problem with the 1258 for a long time. So if he's looking to change servos that would be my suggestion.

My experience is the same as everyone else really. I had a 1251 in my SV2 and it didnt last long. I changed to a 1258 and that was much better.

The other option is a different brand of servo, I am now using a low profile Futaba servo and touch wood.....
Admitting, it cost double what a Savox does but if it lasts then it is money well spent!

Thanks for all the replys guys, seems my main option is to replace with full size servos.

So going up for sale in the very near future is 3 1251's and a 1252 Savox.

Thanks again

Mark

If you're going to run low profile servo and adding weight under the servo, I will just run full size servo with better spec.

Default Savox 1252

I have just bought a new sv2 and put a new savox 1252 in and it lasted 3 heats before its gear stripped, I believe the servo horn is to long for the 1252 ,to much leverage, I have now put a 2 year old 1258 I had kicking around no problem so far
Cheers jason
Ps I have a cheap 1252 servo for sale needs new gears lol
