Default Lipo Height in the SX/SXII?

Hi looking to get a used SX/SXII when funds allow

Can anyone please let me know what the maximum height on the lipo can be?

I don't think you have a chance with that lipo.

You are looking at anything under 25mm. The sxII chassis accommodates the bumps / locaters as on some stick packs.

I just took a look at the spec on your battery, surprised it's only 25.1 high. I'd physically measure it yourself or try it in a chassis. You are really relying on manufacturer tolerances there.

Bugger the new lipos are 24.98mm high!!

Is it the pulley then that restricts the height?

Yes, its the front layshaft pulley that it fouls on.
I've read that some guys put aluminium tape onto the top of the battery so that the pulley rubs on this rather than the batt hardcase, and a friend of mine uses his harcase batt upside down (i.e. locator bumps pointing up!) and this just squeezes under.)

Definately get one with the locater bumps if your chassis is setup for that.
I went for the Speed Power 45C 5300mAH.
Good batt, and BRCA legal too.

I ran the same batteries in my SXII for nearly a year and not a single problem....

Does any one have a list of Lipo's that will fit, I'm looking for the same info as I want to buy a second Lipo. I'm using a HPI Plazma 7.4v 4000mah 20C Lipo Stick Pack and it only just fits..

Sorry mate, dont have a list and have never seen one.
Best bet is to go to the major manufacturers websites and get the spec from there.

My big big recommendation though is go direct to Speed Power and buy from them.
OK, takes 3 weeks to get here, but a 60C lipo brand new for under £50 delivered? Thats hard to beat. Good batteries I think as well.

Hope you get it sorted buddy.

P.S. @008-Racer: if you are still looking a really good example of a Cat SX, I've got one to sell. Its a bit special, but cant say much more than that atm (nudge nudge, wink wink)
If interested, PM me.

to be honest, they only ever "just fit" in an sx/sx2. I was told to check anything over 5000 to double check it will fit in the car. It's a pain to be honest especially buying second hand, as I am finding out...

You're right - its a pain!
... but I confirm that they dont all fit.
I had one that didnt fit at all, was 25.something and it just fouled the pulley.

So my advice would definately be, put the homework in and get one that is gonna fit. Worth it in the long haul.

Just one thing to think about.....saddles will fit in the sx/sx2. Could be worth looking into these as if you change car later most use saddles (inc the new sx3)

I use some demon saddles and have had no issues in my cat

I've tried going direct to Speed Power to buy a 6200mah 65C lipo and yes it's under £50 ($65), but the delivery charge is $105. That makes it around £103.95, more expensive than I wanted. Any idea where I can get the best price in the UK or is £103.95 a good price for this spec of lipo?

Not sure why you are getting that crazy postage charge.
Last two times I have bought from SpeedPower direct, its only been like £10-15 for postage.
Maybe you have selected some super fast airmail option?
My battery took 3.5 weeks to get here so a long wait, but with the really low price it was well worth it.
Hope that helps!

Err, maybe in the SX3 but no chance that those saddle batteries will work in the old SX1/2 stick pack chassis unless you have modified the chassis yourself to fit them?

It better fit in the sx3 or I'm not getting an sx3. Including lugs at the bottom they are only 25.1mm high so will be shocked if they don't
