What tape is your club using?

Has anybody got any recommendations for taping up Prima GT carpet track?

We share a hall and the track is put out every meeting the night before. Up until recently we were using 150 metre rolls of Fat Roll Duck tape that we were getting for about £8-£10 a roll and a roll was just about enough for weeks layout. Now we're spending £5+ for 50 metre rolls because the fat rolls aren't available any more and they aren't as tacky and it comes up overnight needing to be rolled down again.

Has any clubs out there found anything good and cheap or just good? So far we've tried normal 50m rolls of duck tape but it doesn't seem to be as tacky as the fat rolls. The cheap gaffer tape, but it peels up overnight and throughout the meeting. And the economy gaffer matt tape which does stay stuck but does cause some snap traction to the cars and is still more than £6 a roll.

Normal 50m gaffa tape supplied by "Tickitape", if you buy enough (we buy 240 rolls - 6 months worth at time) can be had for as little as £1.70 per roll. Hope that helps.

The last batch of tape we got, from Gaffertape.com, is useless.It sticks the carpet down ok, but when you try to remove the tape, the adhesive stays on the floor. Cleaning it off takes forever. Previous batches have been ok, so I guess they have changed supplier. Is the tape from tickitape any better?

The stuff we get from tickitape isn't their cheapest, but the adhesive doesn't come off the tape. I'll look up the order code over the weekend for you.

At the Essex Winter Series (UK's largest indoor Touring Car series), we've now reverted to using masking tape for holding the carpet down.

The problem we encountered with gaffa tape (and we must have tried about 10 different types!) was that once one car catches it, it starts to lift, then creates at worst a bump/apparent traction roll for everyone, or worst a gap in the taping!

With masking tape, it's much thinner so there appears to be less chance of catching it in the first place, and then if anyone does catch it, it just rips rather than rolling over and allowing other cars to catch. We've had a huge reduction in the number of issues since switching to masking tape again.
