Default Half a gear diff better ?

Tonight I decided to rebuild my sons gear diff and try a different weight oil in it , since buying it in December as a rtr we have made a few mods to it mainly mm4
It has always handled better than my kit built 210 on slipy floors ie cullingworth and batley indoors , now we are outside its the reverse my car is a lot better , my gear diff has 3000 in it and my sons has no oil just a bit of black grease and only half of would should be there ! See pic

I will be trying this on my car the next time I can get to cullingworth to race ,
Anyone got any ideas as to why this would be better on slipy floors ?

More than likely, being as it's so lightly lubed, it behaves more freely - kind of like the difference between running 1000wt and 5000wt oil would. The heavier the lubrication, the more the diff is going to want to lock up.

What about the shaft and 2 gears missing ? Is that like going super low on oil/resistance

Yikes!
Didn't notice THAT.
Thought you were just showing off it using black grease.
Not sure how it didn't turn into a box of steel splinters.

Lol maybe I should have worded it better , I'm thinking is this better than a ball diff on low traction surface ?

seems the rtr kits all come with only 2 diff internal gears.
apparently the "team" run them like this, either hupo or jorn(possibly both)have been trying it in they're 410's as well but it has been known to wear the diffs out much more quickly
not an issue if your a fully sponsored driver

I built one up like this last week. It was bloody horrible.
Onekiwi started the thread if you want to go have a look. (Can't be bothered to search as I'm eating breakfast and on my phone!)

If some of the team are using it like this what is it going to do for the car?
I can understand that it may eat the parts quicker.
Would be interesting to see if it will work well on a loose track

Didn't realise a thread had already been posted about this , after opening my sons gear box I instantly thought something was missing , he has raced it 1 or 2 times a week since December and its holding up fine no apparent wear to anything ,
Without a doubt it definitely handles better on a slippy surface ie polished floor in a village hall
I will be buying an extra set of gears / shaft for my sons car to use outside then every other week remove it for indoors slippy conditions
