Default Using Faspearl paint

Hey guys,

I'm going to have a go at airbrushing my first shell soon and I'm hoping to use Faspearl Red and Fasescent Yellow from the Faskolor range.

Anyone got any helpful hints/tips in using these paints? Backing, prep thinning etc?

All advice gratefully recieved. I have a compressor capable of spraying ove 70psi if needed and a top loaded and bottom loaded airbrush if that helps.

I guess it depends on your past experience and your design. No problem with either colour when I've used them. Make sure you do the red first, make sure it's dense enough, either back with a normal red and then white for a more intense colour or back with white, then do the yellow, again make sure it's dense enough and back with white.

Yellow is a bit of a pig to work with, make sure your brush is washed out well and not likely to spit any contaminants into it, likewise make sure your work area is as clean and free from stuff the air can blow about as possible. Otherwise it will end up in the yellow, and yellow shows up everything

Aside that I can't see you having any problems.

Make sure you post up your work so we can all see what you do !

I don't think that's the case, its good to see people of all abilities posting up what they've done. People can always point out ways you can have done things better but from doing it yourself you'll probably know that. If it's your first one tell everyone, that's fine, we all had to start somewhere !

Ok guys I'm in the middle of spraying my first ever airbrushed shell. I've sprayed 4 coats of faspearl blue so far and its still fairly opaque. How many coats do I need to do to get a solid colour or will backing with silver pearl achieve that??

It depends on how thick the coats and what look your after, but I would say 4 coats should be ok, only one way to find out if when it's finished you don't like it you know for next time Don't forget to post some pics when your done.

If in doubt, hold a piece of white paper to the inside of the shell to gauge your colours opacity / coverage level
