Just to make sure you are actually in possession of the card and not a list of credit card numbers. It is actually quite common with mail order, especially if it's your first order with the company. On-line companies get hit with so many fraudulent transactions each day, they have to protect themselves and the card holder.

I've never heard of that and I use hobby king as well. Personally I'd wouldn't send a picture of my card just incase its a false email.

Completely agree 100%, that's the idea of the 3 digit number on the back of the card. I've used Hobby King several times without issues and use mail order for most of the things I buy ( not just RC ), I've never ever been asked to send a photo.

That's like a supermarket asking to see your passport to verify the card you're paying with is yours when you go and buy your bread and milk.

Don't trust it !

Actually it's more like going to the supermarket and just telling the checkout operator your card number and details and expecting them to give you your groceries without seeing the card.

Hobbyking want to see the card to prove you actually own it, the photo is not much use to a scammer as they specifically ask to only see the last four digits and your name, not the dates, not the security code, not the full number. Considering how big Hobbyking are the time, trouble and lost customers from people who refuse is a lot cheaper than losing money and goods through credit card fraud.
